Begginer guitar books

My friend asked me to have a look around on the internet for decent beginner guitar books that she could give to her friend for christmas. Does anyone have any suggestions of tab-based complete beginner books? i think he's been playing for a year or so but has just been learning random songs from tabs and stuff and they want him to learn properly. I said i'd find one on the internet for her that she can find in the shops or order online and give as a late christmas present (to be delivered to the uk...)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Theres a lot of good books, but how much of a "beginner" is he, and what is he interested in learning?

Don't guitar teachers usually give their students one of those beginner books that goes all the way back to "This is a string. This is a Fret." right?
