Black Sabbath laid down THE HEAVIEST riffs of all time, and have been used by countless other metal bands throughout the years.

Also, metal has NEVER been soley about speed.....just because a song is SLOW doesn't mean it ain't heavy metal.

Technology of today did not exist back in the early 70's, and to play heavy took a lot more than plugging into an expensive set up and playing chords. The fundamental use of bass and drums to lay the bottom end, combined with crushing riff progresions are where the heaviness comes from as opposed to the latest in effects technology.

The term heavy metal may not have been thrown around back then as today, but these bands had balls.

The Iron Maiden part of your comment is completely assanine. Judas Priest (undeniably metal), and Motorhead were also from that era.

Pentagram........heavy. 70's.

Mentors formed in 76.

You speak of "damn hippies". I am by no means a hippie. But I am open minded. I like everything from Frank Zappa and JEthro Tull to stuff like Emperor, Suffocation, GG Allin, and tons of shit in between. If it's good, it's good, regardless of the year.

Nothing pisses me off than "damn close minded metalheads". Not all are that way, but the scene is full of these people, and it's god damn annoying.

Very well spoken deadgoat666. Black Sabbath defined heavy metal once and for all in 1970. It's sad to see people publicly embarass themselves by displaying a complete ignorance of their metal roots.

Yes, truly sad indeed.

By the way Saint Vitus is another killer band. Cool name! Too bad they don't get more regognition than they do. Pretty much everything they have done is killer (with the exception of COD which is my least favorite, but still decent).

shut up you damn hippies. Hope about trying to learn real guitar solo, not shity ass bends, and heavy metal, is were you head bang and act violent at concerts, you cann't do that with 70s music, its not aggresive.
Black Sabbath did not define heavy metal, maiden did with the duel guitar parts. Not oh did sabbath lay down some pretty slow ,pathetic riff, they were easier to play than blink 182.

So shut the fuck up, quit burning american flags, and do us a faovr and boycott 70's music, cept for maiden.

I was born in 1970, so I have been around heavy metal all my life
I would have to say that Led Zepplin was indeed the ultiment band, but for really good heavy metal bands that preformed in the seventies that was known.
Black Sabbath
Uriah Heep
Deep Purple
Rush
Iron Madien
Pentegram
Ac/Dc (the old stuff)
Scropions (old Stuff)
this is my oppioion.
not nesserley in the order of coolness, but just the good bands.:D

"Heavy metal is where you head bang and act violent at concerts"-- This is the most idiotic thing I think I have heard to describe metal. What exactly is "acting violent"? Some metal is not all that aggressive. Not all metal has to be aggressive. Punk can be aggressive too. Some punk is more aggressive than some metal. Also "Mr. I know my maiden", Iron Maiden is not all that agressive.

And ALSO...(jesus, this is too easy), not all metal has dual guitar parts. And that IS NOT what lays down the foundation for metal. Ever hear of VENOM? How about MOTORHEAD? Oh yeah, ever hear of Ozzy Osbourne???? Oh yeah, that's right, he's probably not metal, he only had one guitarist: Randy Rhodes.......but he probably sucked right?

And a good song doesn't have to be ultra complex. SLow and simple works if it is a quality riff.

With a name like Slayerizedcorpse, i figure you probably like slayer and cannibal corpse.....2 bands who idolize Black SAbbath (both of whom have covered sabbath songs). if you aren't familiar with either band, you are just a 15 year old poser.

Idiot...

Hell yeah, old scorpions is cool Lonesome Crow and VIrgin Killer are good, lots of people don't know they used to kick ass. I like acdc up until and including Flick of The Switch (last album with Phill Rudd), after that....blah.

Old PEntagram is awesome.

Priest was the best *metal* band in the 70s IMHO of course.

And yes, Rush was is my favorite 70s band. And I mean the *70s* Rush of course. I saw them on 4th of July 1979 at the Pinkpop festival in the Netherlands and it was one of the best gigs I ever have been to.

HAHAHA!!!! WOW!!! They HAVE solos!!!! If a band has solos they aren't gay right? Solos make a band good right?? Idiot.

COB is overproduced, polished, generic melodic metal. It is rather lame.

Viagra?? Dude, I am 27, definitely not Viagra ready. You Stridex growing punk ass.

And Tony Iommi solos. And he solos better than any COB fag.

The COB forum peopole must be real tough huh??

I agree with deadgoat666. CoB are wayyyyyy too over produced and polished and all the guitarists do is wank. Now I like flashy over the top guitars, as long as it has balls or melody or flash or something. CoB's solos sound like he is practicing scales. And where's the distortion? Fucking crap.

I think they need some lessons on how to write songs and perhaps produce their albums in a way that makes the songs sound good rather than just make each individual track so fucking overly clear just because each member is afraid that "Oh they might not be able to hear how complex this scale run is clear enough" or "We have to make the bass drums sound like a typewriter so people can clearly hear how quick I'm kicking".

Pretentious musical wankers they are. The idea of being a good musician is so that you have the tools to improve your songs, not so you can write songs based around showing that off.

you telepathicly took what was in my head, stole the bitch, and wrote it down first.....thanks for saving me the trouble

SlayerizedCorpse is not a good example of COB fans. There is an other COB fan who participated in this tread. ..

ME!!

Yes I love COB. And I love all their albums. But most of all their live album "Tokyo Warhearts". It is one of my favorite live albums.

Just because SlayerizedCorpse is trolling this tread, that is no reason to dis COB. They are one of the best bands of the metal scene. Al IMHO of course :)
