It was actually hard for me to decide.... i was between The gallery and the Mind's I...and eventually i voted for the gallery...

give me to drink of the fluid that disintegrates.....

The sick thing is that I think Projector absolutely destroys anything else DT has done-- and I love all of their other albums (except maybe Skydancer).

But it's nice to see people who actually think highly of The Mind's I.

i voted for skydancer. i still consider projector to be the next best thing to it (and skydancer being the best album i've ever heard, all sort of music taken into account), and i probably do listen more to p. than to s. these days, but still skydancer has a sort of historic value in my opinion, which is very hard to take away.

when skydancer came out i was into metal and more-or-less-melodic death metal since quite a while already, but between the stuff other bands (gifted, at least at the time. or maybe i just thought so) played and skydancer, no comparison whatsoever could be made. the complexity and richness in music and lyrics was and is still astonishing. in my own humble opinion, part of it got lost in the gallery and the mind's i, as those records - beautiful as they are - give up at least one or two aspects that made close to perfect the preceeding: the gallery lacks compactness and some songs are too cryptic in structure; whereas the mind's i suffers from a flattening of melodic parts (some of whose gained the status of uptempos, while others simply got secluded in two or three songs) and lesser care for structure.

i think projector was a huge step ahead from the pretty-but-soulless mind's i, and the most rich and musically stimulating experience i've lived in the past five years. it will be surely consecrated to that place up in the sky where all good albums go; it's probably only a matter of personal taste that i'm driven to keep on discovering new feelings in skydancer after almost 8 years, while i guess i've already taken from projector all the 'sensorial stimuli' i could take.

as for haven, i pretty much agree with what villain said on the 'haven' thread: the fire starts impetuously, but doesn't last as much as with other dt albums. besides, the songs are fairly similar, with many of them having many a good point and at least some little flaw. they're probably all memorable as always, but i still wish for the future to bring back some depth and momentum to dt songs.

I'm still not entirely sure what the hell Chris was talking about in the insert-- methinks he was a bit . . . stoned at the time.

Hey-- have you heard the new Emperor yet? Fucking tight-- Thorns Upon My Grave is delightfully hateful :)

My vote´s for "Of Chaos And Eternal Night". :) But that´s my favourite at the moment... I really can´t choose between "Of Chaos...", "the Gallery" and "Projector"... :)

Anyway, I´m new to this board, just wanted to say hi and greet you all...

Np: Naglfar - Emerging From Her Weepings (Vittra)

Woaa! Just noticed, nice nick Phyre... :) "it was different, yet the same" Hehee...

archetype actually put enormous obstacles on the dt's path, should they ever have wanted to come out with remixes again.
there are absolutely no versions of dt songs other than those that appear on the albums or some live ones, have you noticed? one of the reasons might be that everybody will instantly think 'aaaagh! archetype again!' the time some alternative version pops up. :)

archetype is not experimenting, it's just a pain in the ass! XD
actually is the only DT song that I've only have heard fulllength two or three times (and the first time I heard it all 'cause I was sure it had to change by the end of the song)
Niklas said they made Archetype because they all liked electronic music, but man that DJ L-Kman done one of the worst remixes I've heard!
But in the other hand Shadowlit Facade and Razorfever are on my list of TOP DT fave songs, I don't know why they where discarded on the Mind's I recordings...
I would love to hear one of the live someday, but I know that this cloud raining over me won't let me! odd to me though!

i like electronic music too, and i think this is one of the soundest reasons why i don't like archetype. ;)

as for those other songs, i agree with fathervic: to me they're much better than zodijackyl light (one of the worst songs out of the mind's i, in my opinion) and maybe could have been granted more space over the years.

I did vote for Projector, because of the incredible emotion in the songs, plus that it's the DT album I've listened the most to, and I have still not grown tired of any of the songs. (Day to End maybe...) Projector, as I have said, is a perfect album if I'll ever hear one. The Mind's I would have to be number 2. I found this quite hard to get into, as I thought most songs sounded about the same, and I didn't like the second part of the album (after Insanity's Crescendo) nearly as much as the first. It has grown lots on me, though, and now I love every song except perhaps Dissolution Factor Red, dunno why. That album has a very special atmosphere, and I really do not see why people are saying not-so-nice things about it. Number three would be Skydancer I think. I do agree that Haven was easy to love but not as long-lasting as the others. I also see why everyone loves The Gallery so much, it has some great songs, but it's still the album I listen the least to, together with Haven perhaps. Dunno why.

Hey Phyre i totally agree!
Its always hard to name a fave album- but when it comes down to i just can't help choosing projector - its really emotional (undo control is extra special to me) and its all so polished and sharp, even tho when it first came out (and maybe still now?) some didn't like the 'new'(er) style? :bah:  i dunno, it was/ is so fresh - i love it!
second to that would have to be mind's i or skydancer.
again, i agree with phyre on the gallery, its dt through and through and has some great songs (esp. opening tracks-punish..;silence and firmament..; and edenspring, and of course Mine is the Grandeur...Of Melancholy burning!) - but i just dont seem to listen to it as much as the others.
and lastly haven...i dunno, it still seems to be growing on me...even tho i have some faves on it (eg emptier still, woders at your feet' not builtt to last)
