I've heard people compare him to Dio too. There is a similarity but not that much. He doesn't have the balls.

I don't like them.

Troops, the first time I heard Twilight in Olyimpus, I had to stop and look at the liner notes to see if it was Dio singing. But I do think Dio has more balls.

I like SX, but they are probably a little too progressive.......... Hmm, I dont really know what I mean there. What I am trying to say is..... they play fast and technical, but they do not have as much melody or emotion as Dream Theater do in my opinion.
SX are sort of neo-classical progressive. They try and fit 800 billion and 3 notes into one bar of music, where as Dream Theater only do 800 billion and 2..........

Dream Theatre are my favorite band ever. Symphony X are not. I actually like Shadow Gallery alot more than SX. Tyranny is a top album all the way thtough.

I still stand by my reccomendation of either The Perfect Element, or Remedy Lane by Pain of Salvation. I think everyone here would absolutly love this band. They are less proggy than Dream Theater, and have more balls and chunk. The singer has a fuckin enormous range as well, from Bruce-ish screams to Dio-ish growls. And the melodys......... my god the melodys! Pain of Salvation hae the best vocal melodys and harmonies and all that shit. I fuckin love this band at the moment, and I know that all of you's would too if you give em a listen!

Spawn, Utopia has The Perfect Element and Remedy Lane in stock. I'd personally go for TPE first. I am listeneing to this album now, and it is a masterpiece. Definatly deserves more praise amongst metal fans!

I just found them to be really boring. As you say they lack the melody and emotion of some of the other bands. Plus, I don't like prog to begin with so the fact that they are "too" proggy wouldn't help my liking them hehe.

Some choices Spawny forgot, shame on him :p

1. Rush: 2112 (all twenty glorious minutes of it)
2. Deep Purple: Child in Time
3. Queen: The Prophet's Song
4. Beatles: Hey Jude
5. Iron Maiden: Phantom of the Opera
6. Iron Maiden: Hallowed Be Thy Name
7. Iron Maiden: To Tame A Land
8. Iron Maiden: Powerslave
9. Black Sabbath: Heaven and Hell
10. Black Sabbath: Sign of the Southern Cross
11. Led Zeppelin: Achilles' Last Stand
12. The Who: Won't Get Fooled Again

Need I go on? ;)

My faves that weren't mentioned in the initial list:

Rush - 2112
Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Grey
Shadow Gallery - Ghostship ("Carved In Stone" is one of the all-time great albums EVER - pity I went off them big time once "Tyranny" came out)
Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons
Spock's Beard - At the End of the Day (AWESOME song!)

But of the ones listed, I'm voting for Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It's 13 minutes long (or whatever), and feels like 5 minutes.

It owns about 45 tonnes of those little Freddo Frog biscuit things. Not the normal *all chocolate* Freddo's, these ones are a butter biscuit on one side, and milk chocolate on the other. They are smaller than the regular Freddo's too. But they come in a larger packet, so it kinda equals itself out.
