Guitar solos are becoming old fashioned generally in music - even in metal, since modern metal is starting to take more progressive approach imo. I still think that solos are the climax of the song and the most anticipated part. Pantera - Floods for example has one of my favorites.
So, post some tremendous fucken kool solos, and hook me up in stuff i dont allready know. Much appreciated.

The solo at the end of Black Sabbath's "Over and Over" kills me every time. The bridge solo on Judas Priest's "Painkiller" is insanely epic. Don't really have any obscure ones to suggest off the top of my head.

I love Steve Albini's intentionally shitty playing with Rapeman:

Dimebag has some great solos, my favorite of is the solo in "Domination", but Jimmy Page reigns supreme.

Off the top of my head the solo work by Arve Isdal on the song Neogenesis by Enslaved from Isa.
Might not be completely metal, but the guitar work by Jimi Hendrix, Band of Gypsy's from the song Machine Gun. There's just so many outstanding leads it's really hard for me to make a list fast. Need lot of time to think about

Behemoth - Inner Sanctum is the first one to spring to mind. Why they don't play this song live is beyond me.

Mercyful Fate - In the Shadows
and other mercyful fate albums are filled with awesome solos.
