Best Immortal album?

I think "Sons Of Northern Darkness" is BY FAR their weakest effort. It's just too.. boring. The only really good track on "Sons.." is, IMO, the title track. "Damned In Black" is often criticized by fans of extreme metal, but I think it's a very solid release.
Sons of Northern Darkness is definately the weakest. My least favourite is Battles in the North because it is nothing but blasting, but SoND is the most.....'stale' sounding.

Damned in Black at least has fantastic melodies and epic-ness.

At The Heart Of Winter>Damned In Black>Sons Of Northern Darkness>>>>>>>>Pure Holocaust(not sure)>Battles In The North(not sure)>Blizzard Beasts>Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism

Henrik I know this is OT but what album/band is that on your avatar? The art is cool :)

Deeds of Flesh aren't really even in the upper echelon of brutal death, and they're not technical dm either. PAH!

Deeds of Flesh! I spit upon thee!!!

I like their lyrical concepts though.

I only have Sons of Northern Darkness and i love it so far though I agree if you listen to it too much you can get bored of it... but its great to listen to once in awhile.. i havent heard their other material but i plan to get them eventually. my only guess why some say Sons of Northern Darkness is their weakest is because its not as brutal and/or as fast as their other albums... thats the vibe i get from people's posts.. but it doesnt mean its a terrible album... to me at least.. i love it... <shrugs>

Yeah, they sound like a rip off of Suffocation except more simplified. Weren't they on Gallagher's label Blunt Force Records?

Immortal is my favorite band in the world, and I agree with the ones that say that you should get 'em all. But the two albums that I think stands out the most is Pure Holocaust and At the Heart of Winter. If you're not totally into the whole "grim black metal" stuff, you would probably want to go for At the Heart of Winter.

Except they don't sound a lot like Suffocation at all (sure, there are some elements, but rip off - no way). And no, they haven't been on Blunt Force. They've been on Wild Rags, Repulsive and Unique Leader.

So, is resurrecting 7 year old threads frowned upon? Or is starting new threads on identical topics frowned upon? Since I'm unsure I will just post here.

My favorite three albums of Immortal are At the Heart of Winter, Sons of Northern Darkness, and All Shall Fall. They're not the rawest but I'm not into the whole 100% raw thing. At the Heart of Winter seems to have the most quality songs IMO but the Sons of Northern Darkness some real masterpieces that surpass (in my view) most of earlier works. All Shall Fall isn't really that great, but I just really love the title track as well as Unearthly Kingdom, probably my favorite two songs ever by Immortal, so for me those two songs carry the album
