best megadeth guitarist

The one that was never hired.....................................................DIMEBAG DARRELL!!
Of the ones that were, Marty Freidman

He never auditioned, he was just asked. As were Jeff Loomis ('87), Lee Altus and Jeff Waters (both '89).

I'm not sure who actually auditioned apart from Jeff Loomis who didn't get the job because he was only 16.

Damn, having Lee Altus in Deth would have rocked!

Fuck yeah, hes really rippin it up in exodus now like!!! and yes friedman is the man absolutly brilliant, mustaine is also awesome aswel though. Poland was never on to many records (jus KISMB...PSBWB and TSHF) but yeah he did a great job on all of them esepcially KIMB.

i think mardy friedman is best

Friedman hit his peak with Rust In Peace...that was just a standout album all around. The chemistry was right.

Mustaine is an awesome rhythm guitarist, but his leads leave much to be desired.

Megadeth would have ruined Dimebag...Mustaine would have stifled him creatively...it was good he never took that gig.

Agreed. We would have missed many great things had this happened but could you imagine some of the dueling guitar solos those two could have kicked our asses with.

i did not know that...u sure know ur megadeth

It is an unwritten law to be a metalhead and know this stuff...hahaha!
Best guitarist? Hmmm.....Not too sure on that because I never really heard any thing from outside of Megadeth from anyone. I will go with Friedman just because I liked that era.

COME ON NOW...I Have seen almost every lead guitarist Dave has had on tour.MY FAVORITE WAS AL PITRELLI ...His fingers( FLY THROUGH THE AIR WITH THE GREATEST OF EASE.....)THE MAN IS ONE OF THE BEST ACOUSTIC PLAYERS I HAVE EVER SEEN...I was talking to dave last year GIGANATOUR..I asked him what happened to AL he was my favorite???? He kinda sneeeeerd and smiled and schrugged his shoulders..(I GOT THE POINT)..Dont get me wrong ,i think drover plays a great lead..BUT AL WAS SIMPLY AMAZING....DRAKESTER.....BAY AREA METAL RULZZZZZ

You didn't know that? So's Araya, for that matter.

I knew Araya was. It was in the local paper here last time Slayer headlined Columbus. (Stryper interview was on the same page. I told Tom after the show I missed Stryper to see their show. Stryper played the world famous Alrosa Villa.) I am pretty sure I have read King say he is an atheist. Do you have an interview somewhere where he says otherwise?

Araya is a catholic. King, I'm told, is an atheist.

Yeah, and Araya is also a mellow man while King is getting grumpier for every year.

Listening to Verdelet by Akercocke now. Sounds promising. Mix Autopsy of Farmer Boys and Hecate Enthroned.
