Best Show Of 2001

Progpower 2.0, even though I wasn't there. That lineup was a prog metaller's wet dream, and I repeatedly cursed my inability to make the trip to Atlanta, and the promoters for scheduling it there. Besides that, Opeth/Nevermore/Angel Dust/October Thorns in Brooklyn this May.

Damn, how could I have forgotten this? That was a great show, indeed. I missed the second day so I didn't get the full dose of prog. Therefore, my decision with Tool stands. I can't wait till ProgPower 3.0. It will be in Atlanta again. Many people in the forum there suggested a harder band such as Opeth. I would be there without a doubt. I need to plan ahead this time so I can stay in Atlanta. I had to drive back 4 hours and didn't get home until 5 a.m.

Oh man what were Zyklon like? They are one of my favourite bands, all hail Trym's drumming!!!

Anyway, Opeth + Katatonia in Dublin was definitely night of the year for me in 2001. Definitely, nothing even came close!

The Haunted + Dark tranquillty,Athens,Saturday 27/1,Sunday 28/1

:hotjump: :hotjump:

I just wish i could catch the idiot next to me who was calling Stanne "sissy" (and other nice things I can't translate hehe) and beat him to death......grrrrrrr

i haven't been to much concerts this year, but Stone Temple Pilots and Die Ärzte were absolutely brilliant at Bizarre Festival 2001. Closely followed by Apocalyptica, but well that's not the fitting music for midsummer festivals...

Oh man Zyklon was so great. You think they are great on cd, wait until you hear them live. pure greatness. And after the show i was standing right next to trym! it was fuckin great.

Besides Opeth the other day, my vote would have to go to Clutch when they played in London. They damn near blew my face off.

I saw Devin Townsend for the second time last weekend and he was much better than the first time. He actually managed to pull off that "claustrophobic" sound that he has on the records. He uses backing tapes, but it's still an achievement. Hats off to the sound man I guess. Gene Hoglan was as awesome as usual, and he called me "an old bastard" for mentioning Wargod :) (I want to do a cover of a Wargod song for my old-school DM project thing, and I need the lyrics..).

I also saw a young UK band called Forever Until October who were supporting Earthtone 9 at a local show and they were outstanding. I usually get bored at gigs, but these guys rocked. The singer is fantastic too. If you're partial to a good bit of heavy Emo then I highly recommend their 3 track EP (if you can find it.. It may be self-released).

VERY TOUGH DECISION
I'd say PanterA, Slayer, Static-X, Morbid Angel..PanterA is my favorite band, Slayer rules live, and Morbid Angel was ear ringing good.

MightyA, you were there too. A definate killer gig. I was for the majority of time in front. Fuck, my neck hurts at the moment...
BTW, they played also Bullet Hole.

being the poor and geographically isolated person i am i was only able to see one metal concert this year, and that was a tasmanian band called Psycroptic, and to say that was good is a big understatement, they were incredible (especially considering their age and location and shit). If there is a better australian band out there then i wanna see them! These guys were flawless.

Blackspirit: Opeth live, Quartfestival, July 01! I even have pictures from the gig, helping me remember it!

The pictures...ugh. I took pictures...about 20 of them. When I got them developed...I should have known better...not one came out. I was too far away...bonehead...

Are your pics on the web anywhere, Spirit?

but I was bound to carry on. "

If I had gone, I KNOW it would of been Opeth/Nevermore @ the Palladium in Worcester, MA on May 4th.

For the ones I went to:

Enslaved was my favorite - just in your face kick ass
