Best/Worst releases-2006

It's downright terrible. To be honest, the production is better suited for a pop-album especially with the song 'The Foetus of a New Day Kicking" - easily one of the worst songs they've ever made. At best I would give it a generous and favouring 5/10 but I could ramble on forever on why I dislike it but I'll leave it at that.

But yeah I completely agree, their first four releases are fantastic and among some of my favourite alltime albums with my personal favourite CoF album being 'Principle'. :kickass:
To a lesser extent I like 'Midian' and 'Damnation' ...and 'Bitter Suites' and 'Nymphetamine' were alright, but even 'Thornography' makes 'Nymphetamine' look like a masterpiece, by comparison.

I listened to Nymphetamine once and was like "well that was OK... ", I thought Damnation was flat out bad, just so pretentious and over the top and utterly dull... Midian was pretty good and even Bitter Suites was pretty good. But all of these pale in comparison to Dusk! :kickass:

Well for me, I'd rank their albums:
(1) Principle ...(2/3) V Empire or Dusk ...(4) Cruelty ...(5) Midian ...(6) Damnation ...(7/8) Bitter Suites or Nymphetamine.

As I said Principle is my favourite but I see Dusk or V Empire being CoF's best material, it is much the same album with V Empire being parts of Dusk just released to fulfill their contract with Cacophonous. I'm glad both got released though. Cruelty was just as good but was a bit weaker, and production could have been better.

Midian is rather interesting despite straying even moreso from traditional sound. The lyrics are very genious and well-written with many doublemeanings, puns and overall just very clever, and hilarious at times.

Bitter Suites had some good points, lyrically it was rather weak and the redone versions despite having some good adjustments just aren't as good as the originals.

Damnation I can see how someone would find it boring or dull since the presence of the orchestra puts much lesser emphasis on guitar or keyboards. I think it was a great concept with excellent lyrics not to mention I do like the orchestra.

Nymphetamine has some good songs like Swansong for a Raven, Nemesis, maybe Nymphetamine and my personal favourite, Soft White Throat. Lyrically the album is better than average but a lot of the songs aren't anything special. I do like the 'style' of thje album though.

Cruelty used to be my favorite album. I bought it the day it came out and was just 'awed' by how dark it was and how 'scary' the lyrics were. I even wrote an english paper on it for college! It's pretty much tied with Dusk for their best IMO.

I was just wondering, what didn't you like about the new Evergrey album?

Best: Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
Threat Signal - Under Reprisal
Cannibal Corpse - Kill

2006 was kind of a slow year for me... In Flames - Come Clarity was okay i guess.... i dont normally remember bad albums.

Bloodmountains second side was wicked. amon amarth was a blast. When did satyrcon's volcano come out? best intro ever. I also loved that demo collection from chuck from death. deicide and unearth blew me away, and so did the sword. Btw, marz volta's new one (like 2005) is spinning right now.

I thought the new Cannibal Corpse sucked for the most part. Might have to give it another listen, but I just haven't liked them for a long time.

Blood Mountain was kickass, the new Isis was kickass, the Meshuggah re-master was kickass. I don't remember a whole lot from last year. It was slow, but when it was good, it was good.

I thought the new Katatonia was awful, and I like a lot of their older work. In Flames can kiss my ass, they suck as well but that's nothing new.
