Anyone coming out tomorrow to see this Progressive Nation alumnus? I've never been to a show here, so I'm looking forward to checking out the venue. It's called Rockettown -- any good? They'll be filming this for a DVD and are playing two sets. The first is their latest disc Colors all the way through and the second is a set of songs from their first 3 discs. Sounds like a sweet deal to me, I can't wait!

And tickets are only $9 after fees :)

I'll wait to see them with Bodom if I can, but that sounds like a fucking awesome deal to me as well. Although, BtBaM is a band that I thoroughly enjoy their later stuff more than their earlier stuff.

So this band does a tour with Dream Theater, and now they are accepted by the prog metal community?

Weren't these guys marketed as an indie rock band a couple years back?

It never ceases to amaze me how trends and fads can alter how labels market their bands, and even moreso how people buy into it.

Well, I've been listening to this band for about 2-3 years now, so I've "accepted" them for much longer than they've had the DT connection.

And maybe they're being "accepted" by the prog metal community because Prog Nation was their first exposure to that fanbase? After all, prior to that, they pretty much only toured with metalcore/hardcore bands. Not exactly a genre known for having too much crossover appeal with prog metal.

Their first two discs are strictly metalcore. It's only with their most recent 2 that they've added the progressive elements, and only their most recent that is a full-fledged prog metal album. So yeah, they're going to gain a lot of new fans since they're essentially a part of this genre now.

No.

Or maybe...just maybe...they've started gaining exposure in a crowd different to their initial market...and people who have been exposed to this music actually like it?

I have been listening to them too for a few years, and they are a band that has definately progressed and gotten better with every release, so why wouldn't they fit here. Their singer doesn't have the biggest range of singing, but he does have one of those relaxing singing voices, and he can growl his ass off. Just check out white walls!

+1

Creating a good CD of covers from bands as diverse as Sepultura and Earth Crisis to Pink Floyd and King Crimson doesn't hurt, either. Their cover of "Three Of A Perfect Pair" is great!...and it's one of several standouts on The Anatomy Of.

I am certainly not knocking anyone for liking them.
Just seems like a lot of bands on the Victory label are currently marketed a lot differently than they were previously.

(IE - Bury Your Dead, Atreyu, etc now being marketed as Metal when they are obviously not to anyone who knows anything about metal).

I am not terribly familiar with BTBAM, though they seem to fall into this mold. If they have truly changed their sound to prog rock / metal, and appealed to that crowd, then its a different story than the label simply pissing with the wind, and marketing towards the trend.

i actually went and saw this show..

I'm from NC, drove 7 1/2 hours there, waited in line to see them for 3 hrs and i was there an hr before door opened..

was SO hot in "rocketown" so many people, the venue is like 44,000 sq feet and it was sold out..

the filming crew was there, everywhere, pretty professional..

BOTH sets get 5 stars by far, they played so tight, no screw ups the entire album they play without pausing.. "Colors"

then the second set, they showed no fatigue at all after playin a 90 min set, then they play ANOTHER 1 1/2 hr set.. played a bunch of really good older songs, ALASKA, Aesthetics, mordecai..

the pits were HUGE and so brutal, their preformance on this night was by far their best ever, AMAZING night.

Yes it was a fantastic show.
They didn't exactly play another 1 1/2 hour set though, hahaha. They only did 6 songs.

Aesthetic>Alaska>Mordecai (about a minute of Aesthetic and then right into the intro of Alaska, right when the vocals come in for Alaska they switched into Mordecai)
Shevanel Cut a Flip
Backwards Marathon
Ad a Dglgmut
Aspirations
Selkies

that's like...45 minutes max. Still awesome though.

Actually I didn't really think it was hot at all, but I'm used to venues that don't have air conditioning (Masquerade, etc). I liked this place a lot. It's some sort of Christian youth center that has a music venue in it, so they're not out to rip people off. $1.50 bottles of water and things like that instead of the usual $3-4. Also, people going down the line outside selling water. No smoking. Really nice atmosphere and acoustics.

and yea, my time measurements might have been off, it just seems the show was long considering how tired i got, lol..

But yeah, venue was pretty nice.
