beyerdynamic m201

Very nice! :)

Less hi-hat, more bottom end and top. Still, a different sound all-together compared to a 57, so if you're used to working with that, it might be a little ?? at first. I know it was for me.. :erk:

Did a quick shootout of a M201, 57 and 58 on snare the other week.

57 sounded really weak and boxy, no real snap or thud. Might have been a dud as I've had ok results with them before.

58 was much better, more highs and lows, sounded very hyped and pre-eq'd though.

M201 had the thump of the 58 but without the snap. Sounded MUCH more natural and I think it would take eq way better than a 57 or 58.

Really wanna try out an I5, but i think you can definatley get great results with a 201

I use the M201 all the time as an under snare mic with a 57 on the top. The M201 works really well on the under snare. I haven't tried the M201 as a top snare mic or a 57 as an under snare mic... I should give it a go next time I track drums.

according to Albini
"Hypercardioid dynamic mic, can handle very high SPL. Useful for snare drum, freak high-SPL situations where you still need good midrange clarity. If the SM57 were a microphone, it would sound like this."
god bless him
