beyonce

i like prince's music from the past but he, personally, is such a douchebag that i think beyonce charms his ass out of the water in that dept.

This forum = so metal that we neglect to mention the return of Exodus but rave about the greatness of Blonde Redhead in two threads a week
i am hoping that i will be able to rave about the new exodus album when it comes out. i really want it to be what people are saying it is.

i need some THRASH in my life.

No, I hadn't heard any song about her father, I apologize for misinformation on that part but still, volume of meaningless, insincere drivel in pop and R&B exceeds that of metal, if for no other reason than, at least as far as I know based on ledger notes and CD cases, metal bands write their own music. At least the instrumental part.

and since when does all music have to fit a person's so-called description of 'intellectual'? the start of hip hop was that music was FUN. that dancing was FUN. that R&B was fun to listen to. so maybe the point of different music is different, but it doesn't negate one and laud the other in everyone's eyes and it's just silly to try to make out out to be more 'credible' just b/c of who wrote what and how 'intelligent' it seems.
in all honesty, a lot of the metal i hear seems really cliche, copy-cat, lame, fake, contrived, and boring. but not all. or not even most. but still. it can be said about all genres.

I am not espousing the belief that all music needs to be serious or intellectual or thoughtful, I am more against the current movement in music towards songs that are essentially factory produced, with a hook being the only thing intended. That and I hate the hip hop lifestyle. There is no doubt that I have hip hop on my computer and in my music collection, something The Dope loathes. I more dislike the lifestyle it pushes, all flash and no depth. I hate the bling-wearing-ho-playing-Bentley-driving-crew-running-gun-toting-clothing-line-pushing-marketableness of it all. I'm simply saying it used to be about making music, either meaningful or fun or remarkably sometimes even both, having a good time doing it, and expressing yourself in an artful way. This is not to say all commercialism is bad, it does sometimes introduce people to genres they would never discover, its just bad when it becomes the only thing motivating the production of it.

Oh yeah, and 95% of metal does suck. But at least I don't have some extremely wealthy promoter who has a deal with some soulless radio station pushing it down my throat so I can be brainwashed by the hook into buying the CD, as so many people are, which in turn fulfills the expectation of the record company so they find the next guy who does something similar and shove his shit on the radio.
