TVF's post about Priest and Maiden really has me thinking now. I can't think of 2 other classic bands that match up so evenly..... 2 bands that when your asked who is better your brain locks up and you can't decide. Or if you do pick one you change your mind 10 minutes later, and every 10 minutes after that. :)

If you play the "who's better" game with bands like:

Slayer or Metallica
Dio or Ozzy
Poison or Warrant :)

Most people will blurt out an answer in 2 seconds. But for some reason when you get to that Priest Maiden question brains freeze up and people stare off into space.

The only other one I can think of (for me any way) would be "Ratt or Dokken". They were my 2 favorite hair bands. At first I would say Dokken because of Lynch's guitar playing, but then I would think of Invasion Of Your Privacy and the next thing you know I would black out.....

So does anyone else have 2 bands that they could never pick between?

ok first I awswer the first 3

1. Slayer Vs Meclitaca
Slayer Because even though the last record did reek abit of numetal it still wasnt that bad lol that and slayer is just WAY better
2.Dio vs. Ozzy
DIO ozzy is overblown and washed up lol that and I have more Favorite Black Sabbath songs with dio than with Ozzy did ozzy have some better songs in his day well yeah but Dio is just more important in my book :loco:
3. Poison vs. Warrant
I'm a closet Warrant fan I cant help it Warrant Kills poison, Poison is just the Symbol of everything wrong with the Glam/Hair Metal era With exception of Flesh and blood that was a classic even in my books

ok Heres a silly one but it might make sense
Motley Crue Vs The Rolling Stones
Nikki Sixx has said that they are the Greatest Rock and Roll band on the Planet Theres alot of people who would say the Stones would hold that title both bands have a few things in common the 2 most notable Ramped Drug use and their Singers Cannot sing a note live anyways this is just a different spin on the whole picking between thing :D

1.)Slayer(I'm referring to both banbs in their "prime")
2)Dio(Ronnie has a set of pipes & has range & the ability to write some good songs)
3)Neither. I can't say I was a fan then or now. They both are mediocre at best. I will say this. I liked a lot of the stuff off the Native Tongue record & I liked selected tracks by Warrant-Downboys(sounds kinad gay though doesn't it?) & their cover of We Will Rock You.
4.) Ratt or Dokken?! My friend that's not even a fair fight! Dokken gets "smashed" by the first three Ratt Records! Essential Dokken-Check out Under Lock & Key excellent from start to finish. Even the filler tracks are good.
5.) CRUE VS. R.S.-I can't say I'm a fan of the Stones. Them & Zeppe are the most overrated bands in Rock N Roll History. CRUE-Musically & in Attitude.

This was exactly the point I was trying to make. They're both great and very similar! Here is another example from the back of my mind....

Aerosmith (in their prime) vs. The Rolling Stones

Now, I gotta give it to the Stones. I think they are one of the best rock bands ever. I used to have a dislike for them but somehow something clicked with them for me a couple years ago and I've been a fan ever since. Maybe its the Jeff Spicoli in me? Anyways, BOTH BANDS have a huge lipped, androgynous singer, guitarists who basically have done more drugs than Rush Limbaugh, and bassists who kind of had a "smug" tone about them. Joey Kramer is a little more animated of a drummer, though, but other than that......

How's this one Alice Cooper Vs. KISS?!
I think Alice had way better lyrics & the original band was great.
His most recent stuff(in the 80's) was shit. I think he's in the process of redeeming himself with all the Spitfire releases. KISS is KISS. They never claimed to be great musicians & just look at Frehley, he's a sloppy player. However, KISS have been more consistent than Alice. So I guess I would have to go with KISS on this one. I just love Cooper's song "Go to Hell." There's nothing like that.

Metallica vs. Slayer - Slayer! Metallica really only had four good albums.

Ozzy vs. Dio - DIO! As mentioned above, I like his stuff with Sabbath better and the first four or five solo albums are killer! That shit was heavy in it's day!!

Dokken vs. Ratt - Brain freeze! I like the first four Dokken albums as well as the first four Ratt albums. I've played Ratt more in the last ten years so I guess they win.

Warrant vs. Poison - Warrant but it's really the lesser of two evils.

Testament vs. Exodus - Testament! They're still putting out great stuff like Demonic and The Gathering.

God Hates Us All I liked. I didn't hear any nu-metal in it but I thought it was as close to their old sound as they have been in years. It was great to hear them all pissed off again and showing these youngsters that they've still got it.

How about this one...
Ramones VS. Sex Pistols?
The Ramones!! The Ramones!! They RULED!!!! 1234!!!!

Really. I have seen them twice and they were great. Two of the most energetic gig's Ive been to eva!!!

I never saw them. I would go with them VS. the Sex Pistols. Just think about it?
Sex Pistols only released one "official" record & then "poof" gone! The Ramones had a lot of material & it was influenced by all sorts of music genres. I personally like Rock N Roll Radio, has this 50's vibe to it... Kind of cool.

Know what? You may not believe this but I also seen the Sex Pistols live. They played LOUD man!! It was Feb 1978 if I am not mistaken. At the Effenaar in Eindhoven. It was good but not as good as the Ramones. The SP were a big hype.

As for the Ramones check out their first two albums:

1 The Ramones (1976)
2 Leave Home (1977)

Their live albums is also damn good

3 It's Alive (1978)

Of their later albums I like their "Mondo Bizarro" a lot.

Here's a good one I didn't think of til now....

PANTERA vs. VAN HALEN

both have virtuoso brothers running the show, the singers can't get along with the brothers, and the bassists are basically hired guns.....

And I LOVE these two bands more than red meat! Just the facts

If you play the "who's better" game with bands like:

Slayer or Metallica - Metal CHurch >:p~ Actually I prefer RTL - AJFA Metallica over any Slayer less "Seasons." Seasons blisters, but Metallica had three great ones.

Dio or Ozzy - I am a Dio head. He sings better and looks cooler on stage. He actually remembers the lyrics to his songs. I don't "hate" Ozzy, but he is overrated.

Poison or Warrant :)

Yuck !! Poison is at least entertaining. I saw them open for Ratt. I would have to go with Poison. Cinderella smokes both of them though. Great band.
White Lion was also better. Vito Bratta was an incredible guitarist.

That one is tough. Yeah Lynch was/is tough, but DeMartini was awesome as well. Pearcy can't sing well live and Don can, but Blotz had one of the coolest drum solos I have ever heard on the "Out of the Cellar" tour especially to sound so pedestrian on disc.

So does anyone else have 2 bands that they could never pick between

Mid-era Fates Warning and early Dream Theater. Those two bands (especially Fates as they preceded DT) put prog metal on the map. Their "classic" stuff is still some of the best prog-metal stuff out there.

If I think back to when I was in High School, two of my favorite bands were Dio and Accept. There is no way I could pick between those two.

My guitar heroes were Wolf Hoffman (Accept) Yngwie and EVH (DLR era). No way I could choose between those guys either.

If you waon't to get "real" oldschool it's Beatles vs. Rolling Stones and the Beatles kills the Stones. I don't like that She loves you yeah yeah stuff, but when the Beatles "discovered" LSD and recorded stuff like Sgt. Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour, The White album etc. that was the shit. No one touched that until Floyd came along. I still listen to some of that stuff on ocasion.
