Why does metal gives that much importance on looks and appearence, like the whole 'wear black, let's party , drink beer..' concept, while the most important thing of all is the state of mind that metal gets you in , by delivering harsh social problems and philosophical enigmas(as given by the band Death). I mean we all know Alcaholica(a.k.a Metallica) was always wasted live in the old days and metalheads thought it was cool! But Metallica members expressed themselves in the Some Kind f Monster Dvd by REGRETING what they used to do in the past!! Eventually every band knows why they go for the look first , to create that image that stiks to the band for their entire career (Slayer)but WHY METAL DOESNT LIKE TO BE NORMAL IN ITS ANORMAL WAYS? ? ?

I would suggest that a part of whatever the 'metal state of mind' is, is an overcoming / rejection of some 'normal' social sensibilities... metal is a direct challenge to some of these, with it's appearance, vocal style, and general level of aggression.

I don't know or care what the bands that I listen to look like, so I don't care about trying to match an image. People tell me all the time that I don't look like the type of person who listens to death metal, but in my experience, the people who actually dress in all black are more into goth, industrial, and nu metal. If I ever create a band, I'll probably just perform in my whichever clothes I happen to be wearing that day.

Likewise, if you can observe life, the universe and everything without needing to resort to the slivers of it our perception affords us, more power to you :)
