Stayed in a hotel this weekend and thought of a question I wanted to ask since we are from all over the place. So do hotels in other countries have bible's in the drawers in the rooms? Not to offend anyone, I was just curious if the US was an overly religious.

Yes, the US is overly religious. :)

Those filthy Gideons!

When I find a Gideon's Bible, I throw it away. :p

When people are walking around handing out those little new testaments, I ask for a whole bunch of them to give to my friends, and then I throw those all away too.

I do what I can.

I also invite the Jehova's Witnesses and Mormons into my home and scare the shit out of them. Well...it's been several years since I've seen them; I'm not sure it's so common around here anymore. That's a good thing.

I don't have a problem with the people being religious, but if there is one thing I hate, it's having their religion put in my face everywhere I go and the arrogance that so often goes along with it.
So many Christians that I know are seriously offended when they have to witness anything that is affiliated with another religion, as if they shoud be protected from it, and yet they can't understand why someone like me would object to a Christian bible in every hotel room. It's not offensive to me because it's like finding a copy of Moby Dick in there....but I'm at least sensitive to the fact that it's offensive to some, and disrespectful to other religions.

Hey, you might wanna grab a copy for yourself. IMHO hate is only justified if you know what to hate. I've read it, own a couple of copies myself, and it's over five years now since I filled the form to cancel my christianism :)

 Way ahead of you man. I was raised by Christian fanatics. I spent the first half of my life being terrified of god. If I hadn't spent years studying the bible, I probably never would have abandoned my religion.

Also of note is that I live smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt.

Yep, they do it in England too- i took a funny picture one time when i was away on business for the first time. It was me, a KFC family bucket and a bible lol

Hahahahahaha, you gotta dig that one up and post it dude

And while I agree that the US is too Christian and should be more secular, is it a law that hotels have to have a bible in their drawers? Cuz if not, and all the hotels I've been in just choose to, I can hardly hold that against them, cuz they have the right to do what ever they want.

im a christian, but i still joke around. like mary obviously fucked joseph!!!
(run on sentence alert lol)
but jehovas. woah. my buddy invited them into his home, when the parents left the room, he told the kids that their parents were crazy and fucked up, and that if they ever needed someone to talk to, to come talk to him.
he then proceeded to tell them to get the fuck away from those maniacs and that not celebrating christmas and birthdays is wrong . haha but really that was kinda ignorant.
you dont have to invite them into your home. and they are only trying to help people. if you broke your leg and needed a ride to the hospital, they would drive you. if you were stranded and needed a ride, they would help. if you were starving, they would help.
remember this when you slander them, cause my parents are not jehovas, but they used to study with them sometimes, and they are really nice people

And I would do the same for them, but this is not about their philanthropy, this is about their peddling an ignorrant belief system door to door.
I used to live in an apartment complex and let me tell you, they were there many, many times. I've had them all but force themselves into my home. I've politely told them that my mind was already made up and there was no point in speaking to me - only to have them be that much more persistent. Alot of Mormons visited too, and I don't know which ones were the worst. They were all polite, and I wouldn't want to harm any of them, I just like to get them flustered.

I said I like to scare them, but I do so by being ridiculously enthusiastic about talking to them. I encourage debate, and I ask if they can defend their beliefs. I like to present logical arguments to people like that and watch them squirm. You can almost physically see them spacing out in an attempt to ignore the points you make. It's funny. They can't back up anything. They're trained to approach debate with pathetic little psychological tricks and logical fallacies and they think they can out talk someone by clinging to them.

In fact, I wish I got more visits in my neighborhood, I miss doing that.
