Blabbermouth:

Rob Halford (JUDAS PRIEST), Robert Plant (LED ZEPPELIN) and Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) are among the singers who appear on Hit Parader magazine's (cover) list of "Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Vocalists" (published in the November 2006 issue).

Commented the editors of the magazine: "Assembling our list certainly presented a daunting task considering the breadth and scope of the metal empire during its 35-year reign as rock's most powerful and enduring force. We tried our best not to turn this into some sort of popularity contest where only the most famous (or infamous) frontmen in metal lore were recognized. Sure, the likes of Plant, Halford and Tyler are here, but so are such oft-overlooked notables Mogg, Owens and Sandoval."

Fuck Axl Rose..I can't think of anyone who doesn't deserve the attention he gets. How many times will he screw over his fans?? How he ended up that high on any list is beyond me.I actually was thinking how so many people(suckers)are paying top dollar to see Guns'n'Roses and getting to see Axl act like an ass with a cover band.

i guess we all disagree with the list
my gripe is that it just seems to be 100 singers put on a list what was the criteria for making the list?.... vocal talent ( range and depth)... songwriting ability.. musicanship (singing and playing)... what i mean is the point of trying to compare lemmy and coverdale they are total opposites

We all know those lists are just waste of papers (if they appear in any magazine). First of all, I've never heard of half of those guys. Second of all, some of those (like Plant and Mercury) aren't even metal musicians. Besides, these lists are made so that they first put all the names they know, all the legendary musicians, like Jimi Hendrix and Plant and then they fill the empty slots with most popular new musicians

There's no way Hagar shuould rank higher than Roth.
Hagar's stint with VH was successful only because of the foundation built by Dave.

Geoff Tate had 2 good albums - EP and Warning.
The rest was commercialized garbage.
His vocal style sounds like his balls are in a vice.

Lemmy and Udo have made good music, but let's admit it, their signature vocals sound like tin cans.
Lemmy doesnt sing, he barks.

Where's Zak Stevens from Savatage?
Where's Jack Russell from Great White?
Where's Jani Lane from Warrant?
Where's Graham Bonnett from Alcatrazz/MSG/etc

I can think of so many better singers that didnt make this list.
I would have rated Byford much higher.

Robert Plant no1 :puke: since when was he Heavy Metal??????

Er since he invented it.

Sorry, but i have to dissagree with you there. I don't think many Zep fans would actually class them (or robert plant) as 'heavy metal', mabey hard rock / blues rock, but not metal. I dont think there was anything that really sounded 'metal' till sabbath did paranoid. But if anyone can think of anything older, post it on here. . .

I agree with what your saying. But most metal is blues based anyway.Beside Zep came up with the blueprint for metal.Sabbath with out doubt invented metal on there first album.I know people harp on about Zep,Sabbath and Purple thats because i sometimes think people aint interested in metal history.
Would you say this is a fair branch of the metal family tree.
Led Zepplin
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Metallica
Helloween(and all power metal shite(joking))

Sabbath with out doubt invented metal on there first album.

Yeah......... But, there was'nt REAL 'heavy metal'... leather, chains, dual lead guitars, screaming vocals, image, attitude and fast double bass drum tempos until, JUDAS PRIEST perfected and unleashed the art that went on to become true Heavy Metal !!!!!!!!!!

If you have any doubts....Its time to play 'Sad Wings of Destiny' again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Priest! Priest! Priest! Priest! :headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang:

btw. power metal isnt shite........dragonforce just make it seem that way !!!!!

No power metal aint shite. Its just that it seems devoid of passion and emotion.Maybe im just old and dont get it.
As for priest,i think i have played Killing Machine 10 time already this week.Just got it again after losing the tape about 20 years ago!:OMG:
