Top 20 vocalists...

Good selections by all..... in no particular order.......

Ronnie Dio - THE voice of metal.
Udo Dirkschneider - In his heyday, he had unmatched intensity.
Glenn Hughes - Overlooked by leaps and bounds. Limitless talent.
Sir Russell Allen - Funny I am not a big SX fan, but his vox are awesome.
Andy Kuntz - best melodic metal vocalist there is.
Urban Breed - he floors me everytime I listen to him on disc.
Mike Howe - Metal Church should have been as big as Metallica with him on board.
Paul Rogers - This man was born with the "golden throat." Awesome !!
Dolly Pardon - Yes she has big boobs, but she may be the best female vocalist (even today at her age) I have ever heard. Wish she would do a metal cover. GREAT vocalist.
Ann Wilson - One of the most powerful vocalists ever to hold a mic.
The KING !! - Yes I am talking about Elvis. Popularity doesn't mean one is great, but the biggest reason Elvis was The King is because he could flat out sing better than anyone else.
Ray Alder - He is amazing andf is getting better with age.
Mark Slaughter - Anyone who dares laugh at this pick.... I dare you to watch him perform. He is in my top five all-time live vocalists (and I have seen many) and I really don't even care for the songs in general he performs.
Steve Perry - Erase what I said about Paul Rogers and send Paul two number two as far as "golden throat." This guy is as smooth as glass.
Amy Lee - What awesome power and emotion !! Gr4eat vocalist.
Stevie Nicks - Probably my fave femasle vocalist stylistically. Love her unique style.
Rickey Medlocke - If you like Southern Rock or not, Rickey could bring the noise like no other.
John Bush - Mr Power !!
Jeff Keith. My God !!! I mentioned him this late on the list ?
James Hetfield - Love or hate Metallica (especially hate now) but James is/was a/an awesome vocalist.

You forgot one, some guy named Shane Dubois hehehehehehehehehehe the big Crawdaddy himself.:worship: :worship: :headbang:

Dolly Pardon - Yes she has big boobs, but she may be the best female vocalist (even today at her age) I have ever heard. Wish she would do a metal cover. GREAT vocalist.

You know, believe it or not, Marillion's singer talked (sort of) about her last weekend... talked about singers who, while technically very good, don't sing with the emotion that others do, and specifically mentioned "I Will Always Love You." How many times have we had that conversation? :) Whitney's good, but she can't *touch* Dolly.

Of course, it's that very reason why I love Steve Hogarth so much... he's definitely at the top of my favorite vocalists list. So... my top 20... or so... :)

h
Geoff Tate
Daniel Gildenlow

after that, it starts getting a little more fuzzy, but I'd definitely have to include:
Khan
Urban (so sue me, you knew that one was coming :p )
Jon Oliva
Bruce Dickinson
Stevie Nicks and Ann Wilson would have to be my top 2 females
Dio
JLT
Ray Alder

Eh, there are plenty more, but I think those are the ones who stand out as my favorites, my "best of the best." I want to list Ray Gillen, too, but I honsetly don't listen to him that much. When I do hear some old Badlands or something, though, I'm blown away again. And I've really started to appreciate Tony Martin more as well. For a band that started with Ozzy singing, Sabbath really had some talented vocalists.

It certainly was because he was sick. I believe the whole band had bouts with flu and colds for those two months. Now don't get me wrong, he can be a bit off live; but overall, he's still fantastic. Just see the Imaginations Through the Looking Glass DVD, to which his performance in Atlanta was comparable. Keep in mind, though, that I might've been banging my head too hard, singing too loudly, or losing myself in the whole experience to notice mistakes

When I saw them they were all ...sick...as in sick on cocaine or crack. It was singly THE WORST show my friends and I had been to. They were drooling on themselves, which added a special grossness and creepiness to their show. As I mentioned in another post, it was their very first live show in the US. It definitely wasn't nervousness in their case...They practically played the same notes all night, his range went no where..it was terrible terrible. I never liked what I heard on cds till more recently. From hearing some other songs, I can see why people like them, but that show was my first impression of them and it wasnt good to say the least. We HAD to leave during the show suddenly, or we felt we were going to be hit with a case of Scanners.

I really enjoy that Glen threw Eddie Vedder out there. He has always been a favorite of mine. I think that Michael Eriksen needs a plug as well. His vocals are amazing and he has blown us away at the last 2 Prog Powers.

Holy cow, I never thought I'd see the day where my favorite band in the world, Shooting Star, was referenced on the ProgPower boards. Not many metallers of any sort, much less the power/prog crowd, are aware of these early 80s rockers.

Although I did run into a guy at PP VI who knew every one of their albums, so you never know!

Damn I forgot some

Andre Matos
Dirk Thurisch
Mike Howe
Geedy Lee
Dan McCafferty
Mathias Blad
Alice Cooper
Christian Augustin
Biff Byfford
Pasi Koskinen
Glenn Hughes
Lana Lane
Mike DiMeo
Johan Edlund
Thomas Vikström

Nonsense. "Last Chance" is a monstrously good tune...and really quite progressive to boot...especially for its time.

To the many excellent previous lists from people, I'll add a few of my favorites:
Jason Miller (Godhead)
Jamison Boaz (Epsilon-Zero)
Klayton Scott (Celldweller, Circle of Dust)

These bands are not metal per se, but they all have metal songs in their repertoires.
