Black Metal CD reccommendations

I think telling people who "just recently got into black metal" to listen to Striborg is a great idea.

What I've heard of their other stuff was not only inaccessible but crap so I understand why you'd say that, but Mysterious Semblance isn't particularly inaccessible (certainly no more so than a number of other albums on that list).

So some symphonic crap called emperor that dimmu borgir sounds like is more 'black metal' than Necrophobic 'the nocturnal silence'.

If Emperor is BM so is Cradle of Filth.

1. Necrophobic isn't black metal
2. One album that is a MUST, which I didn't see listed is Nachtfalke - Doomed to Die

1. Aye, but it's strongly related and it's bloody good, so I'd let it go.
2. The title track of that album is fucking superb - that along with Ragnarok shows Nachtfalke at the peak of his game. Otherwise, whilst he's consistently *good* (as is Moonblood for that matter), I'm not sure any of the albums stand out enough as a whole to make my list. I'm listening to Hail Victory Teutonia for the first time this very second though, maybe my opinion will change.

Actually, early Emperor and Cradle of Filth are worlds apart.

I'm not saying they are similiar. It's just funny The Nocturnal Silence is not black metal but Emperor is. Dimmu Borgir sound exactly like emperor but it would hurt a black metal fan/emperor fan to admit they play black metal. Why is Emperor BM but not 'cradle of filth', who's early works sound a lot more black metallish than Emperor.

Things like this make no sense to me.

How is emperor more black metal than Necrophobic ?

Have you actually heard any pre-Anthems Emperor? It's a little more chaotic than most BM but it's certainly nothing like anything by Dimmu Borgir. More to the point, Necrophobic is pretty obviously death metal with black influences, whilst early Emperor is if anything the other way around.

well lets start with the essentials...

Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky

Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
What would you know about the "essentials", you little cracker? What are you, in 10th grade? You still get tucked-in at night? "walks with an axe..."
"through a forest..." You're just a little punk living in your parents' house in Memphis, TN, not old enough to even buy cigarettes! "Varg Vikernes" ........
You can't even go to R-rated movies by yourself!

To the poster of the thread:
Listen to Bathory and Venom

I've heard 'In the Nightside Eclipse' a few times. Dimmu Borgir sound like them. I would not say it's a bad album but not great either.

I have heard acouple songs from the following albums not caring for them. All of it sounds like dimmu borgir to me.

Only a dumbass would compare "In The Nightside Eclipse" by Emperor to anything by sorry-ass DummyBurger. So, I guess, that makes you a straight-up dumbass.

Only a dumbass would not notice how similiar both bands sound.

Continue trying to be kvlt for your internet friends. I have very good ears.

You do realize that Dimmu post-dates just about everything on this list, right? Without Emperor, there would be no CoF or Dimmu Borgir. Go back and listen to Wrath of the Tyrant. You'll probably hate it because of the production, but I doubt you'll still contest that they're not black metal.

Timebird, your list is mostly solid, but I would have to assume you omitted Emperor by accident, right?

I especially recommend Panzerfaust as a first album for people new to Darkthrone.

Kvist - For Kunsten Maa Vi Evig Vike is a very good album. It sounds like the direction Enslaved should have gone in after making the brilliant Vikingligr Veldi. Frost was such a disappointing album. Kvist is pretty accessible too.

See, this guy is why the place needs a mod. Retards need banned.
BTW I don't like Dimmu Borgir, but this guy needs to learn how to discuss things without being a total fucking nob.

I didn't like Emperor much when I last heard them, that must've been over a year ago though. Maybe I'll take Falconsbane's advice and approach them as I might approach a progressive death band. Kvist is fun stuff but it doesn't make the list.

Listen to that man, Kvist is great.

Shut up, seriously.

Fine, first off, from what I remember, "The Nocturnal Silence" clearly has a lot of Death Metal traits, not so much black metal. Secondly, Dimmu Borgir did originally play black metal until Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, and it was pretty much an Emperor rip-off. After that they went overboard, started becoming more thrash/rock, "techno-synths", etc. Not Black Metal. Lastly, Cradle of Filths early works were death metal with black metal imagery, they then turned into gothic metal.

Why not answer the fucking question? It's clear he's not trying to be funny. Educate him if you can. Or shut up yourself if you don't know enough about the subject.

Thegreys usually is biased against any black metal. [shrugs]
