Bleak

I just came across this recently.. in bleak at the chorus Steve Wilson does the main part?
"Devious movements in your eyes... etc"
After listening to alot of live tracks including bleak... its totally not michael on the studio version.. omg if I am wrong about this..

If it sounds like him on either BP, D1 or D2 it probably is since his voice is pretty distinctive. And I know Mikael did backup vocals on a few songs on Deadwing, but I can never hear them.

Devious movements in your eyes (SW)
Moved me from relief (SW / MA)
Breath comes out white clouds with your lies (SW)
And filters through me (SW / MA)

...

Help me, cure you
Atone for you've done
Help me, leave you
As all the days are gone
(All Mikey)

I'm pretty sure that's how it goes, correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought the "Moved me from relief" and "And filters through me" parts were Mike only, so he and SW were switching back and forth.

And of course, the "You're close to the final word..." part is the two of them harmonizing.

They do a bit of role-switching in Bleak.
You can hear SW doing the high notes but I think the second lines, "moved me from relief", "and filters through me" are done by both.
I don't know, but to me it sounds like the "you're close to the final word" part is done by Mike. You can hear how SW sounds pretty effortless hitting high notes, but that part sounds like Mike because seems to struggle more with the high notes (as can be heard in the Roundhouse Tapes) to me, making me guess that's Mike harmonizing with himself.
Also, "night falls again, tainting what's left of me" sounds clearly like Mike to me.

I think SW also plays the solo in this song?

Ok just had a listen..

The Wooden and Godhead I agree with.

I think they both do the 'close to the final word' but Mike's voice is louder or SW in a lower octave. You can definitely tell Mike struggles more than Steven but that's what I love about Mike. When he struggles it slays IMO. I really liked the Roundhouse version more with Mike singing all clean vocals.

Don't get me wrong though, PT are spectacular. I just don't think SW's vocals fit the vibe of the song.

I only just realized the other week that it was SW singing the lead part in that section. It was the first Opeth album I bought so at that time I wasn't familiar enough with either of their voices to tell. It's so weird to realize it's not what I thought it was like 7 years later...
