Well, since there's not a ton of activity I'll reveal that it was a speaker change. Same mic placement, mic, pre-amp, etc... Clip A is a Greenback, and Clip B is a Vintage 30. The entire chain was Radial Pro RMP>5150 III>Avatar 4x12 Contemporary>SM57>Golden Age Pre73.

I listened before I read your above comments. I voted A. B seems a tad harsh in the highs to me. I'm thinking it's more to do with mic placement.

I like A better too. They all sound a bit crackly and bloated to me overall though. Tell us a little bit about the signal chain, eq, mic placement, amp eq, etc.

Hey Greg, I agree that they're both a bit bloated. This sound is actually what inspired our conversation before. I mentioned the signal chain above, but it's Radial ProRMP>EVH 5150 III>Avatar 4x12 (V30/GB)>SM57>Golden Age Pre73(on cleanest settings). The amp settings were red channel gain on 6, lows on 4.5, mids on 1, highs on 6, presence on 7. Mic placement was the usual, pointed right at the seam of the dustcap and cone about an inch from the grill. The only post EQ is a HP and LP at 100 and 10k, and some C4 in the 80-350 area only really doing work on palm mutes.
