and so here i am dedicating this thread to him.....i think he is an awesome drummer that doesnt get enough credit!!

granted, i'm not a huge BG fan, but from what ive heard, his style didn't strike me as distinguishable or special... just generic power metal kicking imo

Yeah I agree with you. I think his drumming in A Night At The Opera is impressive.

what i heard: power metal double kicks

power metal double kicks = mild difficulty, mild merit ( on bands that keep at it all the time ), not enough to impress me after death metal.

although some of their songs have some catchy hooks, i can't get into BG, for much the same reasons as i can't get into any power metal... except sonata arctica... dunno why yet, but ive always found them interesting.

Not just talking about the double kick but all his drumming.
Just thought he deserved a little more credit than he gets....rather than fans just talking about how Hansi is so cool.

I saw a thread about the Gorguts drummer dying the other day, so I was fearing that this thread was about the death of the BG drummer. Good thing it's not .

I never really listen to drumming, but some of the double bass shit is sweet, especially when done right (as with BG). He is a good drummer and I will see him in less than a month, too.

I think hes one of the best metal drummers out there, I mean jesus christ, this man can write awesome drum tracks. The drums on ATTWS are absolutely brilliant!

It's a matter of what style you prefer, I suppose. I think he's pretty good, but I'd have to listen for it to give a real opinion. Blind Guardian is really the only "power metal" I listen to, but I really think they transcend the limitations generally imposed on the genre.

I recognize myself in this...I'm not usually into powermetal (I strongly dislike Hammerfall for instance) but Sonata Arctica has really intrigued me, they seem to stand out from the crowd.
