Brian you are well above the normal metal head in terms of comprehension. But Portal will appeal mainly to those who are:

1) into Lovecraft
2) into total darkness
3) musicians
4) see Deathmetal as their favourite form of metal

For example, i know you are a huge fan of Dungeon - but i couldnt see fukk all Dungeon fans liking or comprehending Portal. And Dungeon themselves are brilliant musicians.

I put it down to this - I think Jazz is a whole bunch of noise myself and it gives me a huge headache, but by the same token I have nothing but respect for the top Jazz musicians out there, even though I don't really understand it.

You'd be surprised about the average Dungeon fan getting into Portal, though - we have a pretty diverse fanbase!

But yeah, to echo what you said, Sean, if you're not really into it, you won't really get it, no matter how good the material is...

Hell, I's loves all those things (except for number 4) and I's loves Dungeon as well.
I's heard so many good things about Portal from people like Nafe (Psychrist) and some of the Queensland boys when the played the Easter Assult Festival, so I's so want to see them play!
Seany, I's so got to talk to you about getting some of the Queensland bands (including Portal) to come and play The RockApe again. With the sheer brutality that is coming out of the Notrthern State it'll make one hell of a show! Drop I an e-mail sometime, if ya can.

But of course. They're just way too abstract or something. I totally don't get it and immense Lovecraft fan that I am their lyrics still don't seem to make any sense, but that's cool. It's just not my thing I guess.
