Blu-Ray or HD-DVD

did you get the knife yet? :loco:

I cheked ebay last night and the Toshiba HD-DVD players are everywhere, with $12 bids.

LOL, not yet.

Goddam I'm so glad I didn't buy an HD player for my 360. I was moments away, even had it in my hand, when I turned around, put it back, and walked out of the store.

I have to admit, although I've been convinced for quite a while that Blu-Ray would win, I didn't think it would be officially decided this soon. I think it's fortunate for everyone (consumers, studios, etc.) that it ended sooner rather than later and that the superior technology won.

The Pioneer unit processes True-HD audio, unlike any other Blu-Ray player that I know of. Everything else needs an A/V receiver that can process HD audio at the cost of a minimum of $1000. That's my understanding anyway. The PS3 seems like the ultimate deal in Blu-Ray though.

Ahhh... I see. I don't have a high end audio setup for my living room, so that's never been a consideration. Is the difference between having true HD audio and not significant?

Yeah, me neither. I was just wondering because that's the most expensive Blu-Ray player I've seen. I've actually gone back to using my TV's speakers instead of a stereo set-up because the lack of a center speaker really sucks. I've decided it's not worth the trouble unless you can set-up a true 5.1 in proper fashion - which I can't in this house.
Also, I doubt the difference between HD and SD audio is significant unless you have some really nice speakers, but I don't know personally.

Went and ordered one of them there coupons fer my telervision. I don't know what I'd do without Antiques Roadshow.

got my coupon.

$40 off a converter box, which I believe I've read costs around $80. pfft

but it expires 90 days after it was mailed, which according to the coupon is on 5/30. Nuts to that, if I were to buy one of these things I'd wait until next year closer to when my antenna TV stops working which I may or may not be using anymore by then anyway.
