Blues

I was lucky enough to see Trower on his "Bridge of Sighs" tour in 1973. I was third row front, and to this day it remains as one of the best guitar concerts I've attended. James Dewar(RIP) was an outstanding bass player as well, as vocalist. Bill Lordan was on drums. For me, this has always been the best Robin Trower line-up. Check out; Robben Ford. Blues guitarist who also played with Miles Davis. Been listening to "Handful of Blues" by Ford.

Dude I didn't realize you were that old:lol:. Cool story tho'. So do you think Trower still has it and who is his new singer, any good? I'm not familiar w/ his new material and I'm wondering if it's worth seeing him or not.

Yeah Belligerent, I'm old as dirt man. I guess I jsut have a fondness for the above-mentioned Trower band. His singer now is Davey Pattison(I Think) If your asking me would Trower be worth seeing, that would be a resounding YES. If his new album(Seven Moons with Jack Bruce)is any indication, I'd say he still has it,man.

There could never be another Dewar, he's in my top vocalists too. That combination was magic.

Yeah it sucks that Dewar has passed, but I think now was the right time to do another album with Jack Bruce. 'Cause before it was like "...why would you do an album with someone else when you could be with James Dewar!" Haha. But yeah that Seven Moons album is very good.

I have the other album B.L.T. that Trower did with Jack Bruce. Solid album. I would suggest another blues/guitarist Luther Allison(RIP). His "Live in Chicago" is a 2 disc set that is excellent. Otis Rush plays with Luther on a couple tracks. His son Bernard Allison is a smokin' player himself. Both worthy of checking out, and possibly, adding to your collection. Surprised no one has mentioned Johnny Winter. Always loved his style(Texas) and his gravelled vocals. Played with Muddy Waters for years.

Back on Trower again, I just read that Opeth will be covering "Bridge of Sighs" on their upcoming album. Pretty fucking cool I must say... But is it true?

Yes, I heard that as well. Supposed to be doing a cover of Alice in Chains-"Would" Posted from their label(RoadRunner. It will be awesome I'm sure. Have to wait till June for certainty though. In the meantime, how about some Roy Buchanan-"Live Stock" incredible blues guitar playing on this one.

Almost forgot, Gary Moore-"Still got the Blues." probably my most played album ever. From 90-91. The title track guitar lead work has always been chill-inducing for me. All songs are executed very well. A 'contemporary blues" album that should be one for the ages.

Gary Moore is a tone & feel King. I agree about the song Still Got the Blues, the whole song...

Thats cool, Opeth paying a bit of tribute to Trower, imagine that? Trowers has always seemed to have a love it or leave it effect on people. I know alot of people that say they just never got into Trower... those of us that have love the stuff, but I must confess I never felt the same about his other albums as I do Bridge of Sighs.

OK favorite song off Bridge of Sighs ?

I like them all pretty good. Day of the Eagle I always felt was just the coolest riff and it rocked pretty hard. But my honest favorite is "About to Begin" even over the title track. I think "About to Begin" is about the rush of playing. "As it flows up from the ground, taking off you hear that sound, close your eyes, its about to begin" awesome vocal performance. Of course then I've always wondered if it was a drug song, but I think of it as the rush of playing, theres nothing like it. Im pretty crazy about Caledonia too (different album of course), its got a bit of the Isleys Brothers "Whos that Lady" feel.

Yep you guys got me in a Trower mood, tonight is a great night for Trower, off I go to the Bridge of Sighs... been along time crossing......

Definitely can agree with alot of things you mentioned. His other albums are good but not as special as B.O.S. I always wondered if he was really heavy into drugs. Songs like "In This Place" and "Little Girl" seem pretty stoned out (in a good way lol). I know that Frank Marino lost his head from all the LSD he took but I wonder the same about Trower.

Trowers slow foggy music is the best stoner music there ever was. Everytime I listen to Bridge of Sighs, I long for my old light set up I had in my room as a teenager, a black light, a couple of blue lights.... not that I know much about these things........

So whats your favorite song off BoS ? I really did just listen to that, man theres alot of good tunes. Track 4&5 I think are the weakest, like "just" songs.

OK, I know and accept that Im very partial & bias about this... but still there is no doubt in my mind who the greatest two guitars players ever to grace the fretboard are.

Here you get both rolled into one. You get Hendrixs great writing, his awsome double stop technique... then played by the most natural guitar player EVER! "Pay attention...... this is how you play guitar"...... :worship:

He was quite a drinker, thats what it looked like to me. Even took him a bit to get going. Looks like it was a non air conditioned gig too.

S.R.V., Godly player not much more to say. An excellent "guitar" album is "In Session" with S.R.V. and Albert King. You can hear Stevie play with restraint, as to, show respect to Mr. King. In 2002, a friend of mine was kind enough to introduce me to Jimmie Vaughn at the Pittsburgh Blues Fest. He was there to play with Savoy Brown and Bernard Allison(Luthers son). In our conversation, Jimmie certainly recognized his brothers playing, and remembered even as kids he knew Stevie would be great. He commented strongly that Stevie was a better human being than guitar player. That statement has always stayed with me. Stevie(RIP)
