Hows this for multi micing of a cabinet??????

ND-2008191.jpg

Saw this recently in a studio a friend of mine was working in and thought it might be of interest......what do you think... the guys having trouble making up his mind or hes just very new????

Maybe this person is putting together some type of mic shootout? That is just a guess....Why you would be recording guitars and use all of these mics is beyond me.

Would this really matter as long as they were in phase?

Oh dude, totally, the position of a mic when it's that close to the speaker makes a HUGE difference, so even if they were all the same mic (57's, for example) they would all sound different from one another

Hey All,
New here - interesting stuff.
Yeah the 57 in the middle would sound different but the others look like they are all the same angle onto the dust cap so they'd be picking up pretty much the same thing all round i think so it would be only the differences in the mic designs that would produce differing sounds. Would sound either great or completely shit.
AAARRRGGGHHH

I reckon he's probably doing the ol' Fredman micing technique, and comparing each of the mics with the central 57. I'm guessing he'd just use whichever off axis mic sounds best with the central 57 and going for that pair.

My understanding from what my mate says is that he started off doing this but then got a bit carried away and used all of them in the final mix.. I think he might have even stacked it up as well..

Good though aint it.... oh and yeah forget the title of the thread I meant Fredman.. Sorry Mr Nordstrom.. there you go.. Think before you post!!!

Hmm, good call Ed! All the mic stands/cables threw me off at first, so I didn't realize that the outer 4 were really all approximately pointed at the same place at the same angle
