can i have the novels tha symphony x have used as a source for there music and can i have the song with the novel if that to much to ask....

King of Terrors - "The Pit and the Pendulum"
The Turning - "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde"
Through the Looking Glass - "Through the Looking Glass" :)

I hear there's also a book called "The Damnation Game," but I don't know if that's what it's inspired by.

Anyone know of any other ones?

c'mon everyone knows [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Symphony-X-Virgin-Erotic-Romances/dp/0352339586/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1210256198&sr=1-1]this[/ame] is the most influential novel for them :D

LOL....Oh God, not the SyX erotica book again.....

That sure does bring back a lot of old memories here though....those were the days....

MJR seems to like Edgar Allan Poe's stuff, there are 3 tracks in his solo album 'The Dark Chapter' that are named after some of Poe's works, these are:
Cask of Amontillado
Masque of the Red Death
The Premature Burial

Not sure if you guys already noticed this.. 'Noit Al Ever', if spelled inversely, gives: 'Revelation', I don't know if this is a book or something.
There is also 'Sevil Alucard' = 'Dracula Lives': This I think is the name of a version of that old 'Castlevania' video game. Not sure.
I don't know what the hell was he thinking when he came up with such ideas, but it's cool anyway, I enjoyed that album.

Oh and that erotica novel thing is a classic.
I don't know if the guys know about it, lol I can only imagine their reactions.

Cheers

omg i wonder if mjr knew at teh time that he would be closing an album 14 years later with a song called Revelation lets overanalyze it like Dream Theater fans do

That is pretty cool, though. I knew about the Dracula one, but not about Noit Al Ever. Cool song, too... love the opening riff/section.

And if your reorganize the letters of "Symphony X Paradise Lost" you'll get "Sexpot plays disharmony."

edit: or "Pyramids Pax Holystones" This must be a reference to V&Atlantis

edit: lol, I'm warming up... "max polyphony disasters "

But if you reorganize "Dragonforce Greatest Hits" you'll get "stretching frets area good"

Man, what the hell is The Haunting about ? I get it's a friend he killed that comes back to haunt him but whats with the "knife cuts to the vein" ? Am I missing something..

And on that note, is Winter's Dream about Suicide ? Going to Heaven ? A dream ? I don't get it.

Hell yeah I love it too.
Going off-topic here, but I dunno why he doesn't use that electro-classical guitar anymore cause it really added a nice flavor to his stuff. In fact he never used it with SymX did he? Maybe he just didn't wanna sound too Malmsteenish, which I don't think would happen anyway.

Generally, I've always loved his acoustic stuff more than any other prog player, the end of 'Sacrifice' was particularly awesome and clearly shows the DiMeola influence.

Man I'll wait my whole life for another solo release, actually I want that now more than another SymX release, not sure though if there is anyone here who shares the same wish.

Back to the books thing, I think Romeo once mentioned a Lovecraft influence, but I can't find any song displaying that..

Well Alucard was also the main villain in the 1943 film Son of Dracula, starring Lon Cheney Jr. So its a safe bet both Romeo and Konami got the name from this film.

or various anime series.

The major works "The Odyssey" by Homer, and "Paradise Lost" by John Milton, have already been mentioned.
