Played it for about twenty minutes, sounding awesome, then while I was playing all of a sudden it just died. No light, nothing. Checked the fuses, tubes, power chord. All seem fine. It's Sunday so nothing is open to call and see what the hell is going on. Anyone know of what might be going on so maybe I can settle down a little until tomorrow? I am very pissed right now.

Jesus, I can understand dude - did you buy it new? At least my new acquisition (Dual Rec) is like 12 years old, so I can understand why it's having a rough time :lol: If you don't even get a light, that sounds like a fuse to me - you say you checked it, did you try swapping it? The manual should explain what type you need (likely to be a Slo-blow), so jet over to Radio Shack if they're open!

yea it's a 1A for the "HT" and a 5A for the "Main Fuse". Slo Blow for both of them. I have no tech skills so have no idea what any of that means. I don't think I am going to try anything myself, just wait till tomorrow and call where I got it from and Bogner.

Dude...fuses are super simple to replace yourself... any fuse in a tube amplifier should be SLOBLOW, as the name suggest it blows slowly instead of quickly. No "tech skills" required, a fucking blind deaf person with 1 finger could perform the replacement. Seriously all you have to do is go to RadioShack and tell them you need a 1A SloBlow fuse and a 5A SloBlow fuse. Take them home and replace the ones in there. It's that simple. You aren't going to get the wrong fuse. Or wait forever...you're call.

1A = 1 amp
5A = 5 amp

Simple.

Yeah, +1 to that, I'm N00by McN00berson when it comes to electronics, but when my JSX blew a fuse randomly awhile ago, I bought a bunch of new ones, replaced it, and it worked fine ever since (until it apparently broke on the bitch I sold it to, but that's another story :lol: )

If when you replace the fuses they blow again either very quickly opr imediately, then you have either a tube or transformer problem most likely.

If they are ceramic fuses then yeah, they can look "ok" but unless you are familiar with them you won't know what to look for.

Fuses are indicators. If you're blowing fuses, then you likely have a powertube problem.

A lot of guys just replaces fuses, and keep replacing them. Then they wonder why their brand new amp keeps blowing fuses.

If I were you, I would (1.) check the power tubes, and (2.) check to make sure you have your amp biased correctly.

Good luck!

Actually, from personal experience I would nominate that while it is indeed likely a fuse blew for some other reason, it's not a given, so definitely try to change it ONCE and see if you have any more problems, don't just immediately buy a whole new quad of power tubes!

I had the same problem when I first bought my uber. Took me three blown fuses one right after the other to decide a full power tube replacement was in order. After that I didn't look back and things have been working 100 percent ever since.

Hope you get it sorted soon mate!!

The only time I ever almost electrocuted myself I was putting a new mains fuse in a Marshall 100 watt head.

NOTE: Unplug it for a while before you go putting fuses in and taking them out.

I'll assume based on your comments that draining the caps first isn't an option and for the task at hand, shouldn't be required.

I gave myself two nice sized shocks when building my Plexi clone. When sitting for hours on end soldering, one can become careless.

Called where I bought it from. Said that sometimes in shipping they can knock around enough to mess them up or something (usually just the fuses) and to try putting in new ones. If that doesn't work or it does and they blow again, take it back and I get the other new one that is there and they will ship it back to Bogner.

Stress level has receded a lot.:) Have the fuses and will try it out when back home from work.

Ok. it was the fuse. (Main 5amp one) I am relieved. Now, as for how the fuse blowing could be an indicator of another problem. Is there anyway other than cranking it up and playing it for a few hours to see if it will blow again? As much as it sucks I don't have to opportunity to do that right now.......If I just played it at a low volume could it blow again? Or just let it sit on with a cab and guitar plugged in?

Just play it normally at whatever volume you can (in other words, don't go out of your way to try to futz with it ;)), and if it works, you're gold!
