I´ve been recording guitars, basses, vocals, pretty much everything except the drums through my Pod XT. But I haven´t been too happy with the vocal sounds so I bought the Behringer MIC100 preamp and Fame MS-57 (A Shure SM-57 copy).
I had read a lot of pros ´n cons considering the MIC100, and to be honest I almost hated the sounds when I first tested it. It was impossible to achieve warm tube overdrive at all, there was also a bit too much noise.
I wasn´t quite sure if the problem was in the 57 or in the preamp. Fortunately I had bought the ElectroHarmonix ECC83 tube before buying the preamp so I decided to replace the Behringer tube with that.
After that operation the sound was SO much warmer. There was less noise and I could overdrive the shit to the five o clock without that cold crappy distortion.
Here´s a sound clip. Strapping it is
