Brad Delp dead at 55

I liked their 3rd album as well.... that had the song Amanda right? ... only thing i didn't like about them was that Tom Scholz was such a perfectionist that they released a album or two like almost every 10 years... but RIP Brad...

I've heard that Boston asked Eddie Kramer to produce their album at the same time KISS needed him to produce Alive!. After listening to the demo of their debut album he told them they didn't need a producer (it was that good) and took the KISS job.

RIP Brad

We've definitely lost a great rock vocalist. Boston set the standard back in the day and Brad's vocals were signature. One of the hardest vocal styles I ever tried to mimic. The angels have a new choir director.

I wrote this yesterday

"I have my parents to thank for my love of heavy music. When I was 5 years old I remember vividly them playing me stuff from Blondie, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and, most importantly, Boston.

Boston, for me, always resonated as the band with the most unique rock n' roll sound in the history of the genre. Tom Scholz had a guitar sound that was so brilliant and heavy. But the true soul of the band came from the voice. The voice of Boston was and forever shall be Brad Delp. The guy had the voice that could melt steel.

I had the honor of getting to see the band play in concert in 1995. This was in support of the Walk On album. Hearing that magical tone and getting to experience the awe inspiring power of the band in person remains with me as the single greatest concert experience of my life.

Sadly today at the age of 55 Brad Delp was taken from us. At present the cause of death is unknown. I have never been so affected by the death of a celebrity as I am now. Brad was the embodiment of the term "Rock n' Roll.".

I am humbled and proud to have witnessed the band play.

Rest In Peace, Brad. You will be missed!"

I got to see them on the Third Stage tour, July 2, 1987, at the Meadowlands Arena in NJ. We sat 7th row from the stage, and it was freakin' unbelievable.

I echo all the kudos above. A sad loss for the rock world of a truly unique talent. The debut could be the first album I ever owned. Somehow, without the help of my parents, I got into them in 1976 at the age of 8. I still have the original vinyl LP.

It is also quite sad that they were to tour this summer, and Brad was planning on getting married in the middle of the tour.

Great post!

Welcome to UMOS. :headbang:

Damn... I just got into Boston recently, and I had never realized how big they used to be in the USA.

And now I read this... so sad :(

Rest in peace Brad, your magical voice belongs to rock history.

I'd be quite the hypocrite if I said Boston were one of my favorite bands since I pretty much can name only one of their songs (you know the one...) but still it's sad to see a rocker go... RIP
