Breaking Days In Times Best Forgotten
Demo self released 2002
By Russell Garwood
Breaking Days, a five piece metalcore band, come from Watford in the UK and formed in May 2002. Comprising vocalist Craig, guitarists Ian and Ralph, Jon on bass and drummer Rich, the young collective provides extremity above all else. This debut three-track demo was released after the band had been together for just six weeks. The music consists of crunching, abrasive guitars, pummeling drums and caustic shouted/screamed vocals, while the bass is slightly less audible. Influences range from Arkangel to Canvas through Morbid Angel, making for a truly violent, relentless assault.
The band claim to have put 110% into every aspect of their music, which shows in this release; a destructive vengeful tone runs throughout, and if In Times Best Forgotten is what Breaking Days can achieve in six weeks and three tracks I look forward to hearing a full album. The production is slightly dirty on this demo, which serves only to enhance the bands anger and ferocity, and gives the music an organic feel. Definitely a band with a bright future, Breaking Days music will appeal to all those after extremity, albeit it at the price of originality.
