Brutal technical death metal with GOOD production

what about all this "alien-core" stuff coming out, is that considered brutal tech death? rings of saturn, the contortionist , etc

RoS and Viraemia are the general style that I was talking about in my OP. Lots of "wank" sweeping and stuff like that. It's interesting to see that kind of stuff with good production.

Agreed! I really dig the fretless bass. I'd like to hear it more often in metal

You might want to check out my band "Aeons Confer" then (link in sig), we're going to release our debut album in spring 2012. I'm currently recording the bass for it, and it's 100% fretless. I'm no Forest LaPointe though... :p
