I was talkin' to someone a longtime ago about this guy(?), and he was telling me that it was actually a woman behind the get up. I thought possible, a gal can play guitar too! I found my copy of the GNR performance from that fiasco they call the MTV Music Video Awards from 2002, so I watched Buckethead. It could be a female, I looked at the hands, kinda small & the build wasn't very large. It could be a woman!

Whoah! That is actually very interesting, indeed...cause Buckethead conseals his/her identity a lot like KISS before taking off the makeup. You NEVER see buckethead without the bucket and it's not like he/she is at a level of fame where he/she couldn't go to the local grocery without being harrassed by rabid fans...there could be some validity to this!

I'd heard that it is Jim Martin from Faith No More. He did it as a goof and it kinda took off.

Not sure but I don't think Martin is overly tall, just average I guess. I don't know how true it is anyway. Had a conversation with a guy in a record shop about him one day (why? I have no idea ) and he said he heard it was Martin.

I dunno, guys. I think that Buckethead being a woman is somehow more believable than the Jim Martin thing. It just makes more sense to me. I don't think Jim Martin has the same build. Buckethead seems to have some skinny hands with LONG fingers...granted, I don't hardly know where I shit last...so I'm no authority...but it's just a hunch. Ever since this thread posted I have already sealed the deal in my mind that Buckethead is female...but I may do some more research.

On a similar note, though...I went to high school with a girl who looked 100% identical to JOE PERRY! People were always teasing her and calling her JOE....seriously. ABSOLUTELY STRIKINGLY IDENTICAL.

It's a guy named Bill Laswell, who has a lot of guitar based albums. Some albums are jazz, some new age, some are Indonesian influenced. His Buckethead stuff is at times Joe Satriani-ish. On a few Buckethead tracks, he has Les Claypool singing and playing bass.

It's not Bill Laswell. It's a guy named Brian Carroll. Bill plays in a couple bands with Buckethead. Brian Mantia (Brain from Primus/GNR/Buckethead) also plays with BH.
