Ok, I've got a friend who's getting into playing guitar more, and wants to buy a new amp, the most he can get is £600 for his 18th, can anyone recommend a fucking kick ass amp that he can get new for £600??

Peavey 5150 mk1 signature combo? I use to have one, kick ass combo and loud as fuck. I would recommend eventually replacing the stock Sheffields with V30's though.

If you search eBay etc. for a 5150 combo, you might get lucky, but obviously it wouldn't be new. If you try haggling a bit you might be able to get a 6505 down to that kind price. There's the XXL, though I don't think that's all that well thought of. Other than that I don't really know anything round that price range. Maybe a Marshall TSL (again, you'd have to haggle for the 100W)? Or an Orange?

Got a 5150 MK I for 500 € used + the cheap Peavey 412 with these Jensen speakers  for 200 € used.

Hey, it's no V30 loaded cab but it sounds well to me.
The other guitarist in my band plays the V30 Engl cab, but to me it doesn't fits well with the 5150.

So...go for 5150.

Cheers

£600?

First of all, tell him to get the Harley Benton 4x12 cab with Vintage 30's from Thomann (£238), that should be a good enough cab to last until he can afford to invest more money into his rig.

That leaves around £350 for the head, for that he can get any number of Marshall heads from eBay (a 50w JCM800, JCM900 or a JCM2000, He might even be able to score a used 5150 if he's lucky.

That Randall head that Fabz posted might be worth checking out too.
