So I finally managed to grab a 57 to give my new uber-budget rig a reamping work-out.

This was done rather quickly, as I'm still trying to find the (very small) sweet spot of this gear. The Bugera is inherently very grainy sounding, and the cab a little bit woolly and fizzy, as one might expect a cheaply constructed 2x12 to be voiced.

All the same I thought I'd fight the odds and see if I could get something reasonable out of it, considering how little money was spent!

This is a track put up by Fragle a little while back as part of a 'reamp-a-thon'.

It's still a bit dull sounding to my ears. I would lose more of the mids, lose a bit more lows, and try again. Move the mic closer to the dustcap.

Cool, will try. The mids were on 0.5. The two are inherently voiced in a very stuffy way, but maybe I do have to bite the bullet and crank up some of that horrid Bugera high-end to make it work. Cheers for listening.

Sounds quite thin to me, maybe it's just my speakers. Would probably work great in a mix though. I end up high-passing my guitars until the end up sounding somewhat like this anyway.

There is definitely potential for some really good tones here man. I think this tone is pretty awesome anyway. Sometimes I like tones to be a little more dull, but it could still maybe use a bit more of a boost in the high end. I think maybe if you did that, the mids wouldn't seem to be standing out so much. I think the low end and mids sounding how they do, help make it sound nice and full, and direct, if that makes sense.

Those chords around the 1:05 mark ring out really nicely with this tone and have a sort of nice smooth sound, whilst still maintaining clarity to make them sound bright, but like said before, a little more high end might make it way better.

Ah, welcome to the world of micing in your bedroom Ermz! Let the tearing of the hair begin.
As far as the tone goes, I don't mind the lack of hi frequencies, it's more so the abundance of the boxy mids and lows that I think is letting it down. I think some surgical EQ would be required in those areas.

Can't believe that I'm telling Ermz of all people to use more surgical EQ haha. Was the completely raw?

If you start bringing the highs too much it might get harsh to listen to this mix at high levels. I believe the balance in that tone is fine. all that's needed now is to build up that mix around the guitars.

Lol @ You giving ermz guitar advice when the most recent mix you posted sounds like preamp only.
Come the fuck on.

I still don't know why people are saying there isn't tat much in the way of high frequencies. Sounds nicely balanced to me. Maybe not much in the way of "air" frequencies, but I don't see that as mattering too much.

This probably confirms that my speakers obviously do have a huge abundance of high mids just as I've recently began thinking.

you really need some better stems/di's to work with. this stuff is just written so strangely.

The tone is ok. Nothing about it stands out in a good or bad way its just kind of there, if you know what I mean.
