Hi Powerfest fans.. I'm posting this here because the winner of the contest will be getting a spot in the Powerfest 2009 Lineup. If anyone knows a band looking to break out of the scene, send this info their way!

And certainly, since most of you will be at Powerfest I assume (me too, feeling anxious already!), you may want to vote on some of these bands (after March 6th) at www.buzznews.net and/or check out the show with the finalists battling each other at Chicago City Limits on April 11th.

FREE CONTEST – METAL WARS 2 HITS CHICAGO

Metal bands, this is a contest and a showcase. Entry is free! All you need to do is submit your best mp3 to metalwars@buzznews.net with your band name and title of the song by March 6th. Of all entries received our judges will choose 25 bands of which will be posted on our site for a voting period. The top 6 vote getters go to the finals on April 11th at City Limits in Schaumburg. Besides competing for first place, this will also be a showcase for Dark Star Records and Wuli Records.

Prizes include a Wuli Records 32-hour recording block engineered by Louis Svitek (Ministry, Pigface, Revolting Cocks, M.O.D.), a slot in Powerfest 2009, a cover feature in Buzz Magazine, 8-hours recording time at Sonic Palace, Shure microphones and more…

Enter now! You only have everything to gain!

I'm guessing there have been some issues with the remaining headliners/support slots? If so, that really sucks. Hopefully it all works out!

This has got nothing to do with any issues, we were recently given the
chance to team up with BuzzNews.net to sponsor their event and
to give a very deserving local/regional act the chance to open one of the
nights of the festival!

We've toyed around with the idea of a "metal wars" type thing for a few
years now and thanks to BuzzNews, we'll be able to get involved
and give a killer up-n-coming band a great opportunity!

Special thanks go out to Key Payne, Kim Kaatz and the whole Buzz crew!

I was going to reply with something to this effect, but thanks for filling everyone in, Chris - looking forward to the contest and to Powerfest 2009.

Thanks for clearing that up Chris. I agree that this is a cool way to get a smaller, local band some exposure on a big stage, and some great prizes as well.

I'm glad to hear that this slot isn't conflicting with the remaining four top spots on the Powerfest lineup. Bring on the big guns!

The contest is up and running - feel free to make an account and vote for the band that you'd like to see make it to City Limits for the finals and maybe all the way to Powerfest!
