C3000's

Unless you have to sell your butt for the C414's... rent those.
C3000 is NO fun. Been there done that. Compared with C414, C3000 would be more useful as hammers.

I heard some where that the c3000s and the c414s have the same diaphragms but the C414s have 2 of them is this not true then?

Same diaphragm, true or not, doesn't mean same sound/quality...
You can find c451 (not 414) at decent price, they've done the job for decades... Think about it.

Definitely the SPL Goldmike. Focusrite platinum series sucks!!!
My sentiments exactly. Maybe "sucks" is a bit strong; I wouldn't want to offend folks who use Focusrite Platinum stuff, but their preamps really sound cheap, and although they don't cost that much, you can do much better for even less cash.
Man, good thing you asked before you went ahead with C3000's through Focusrite Platinum stuff... "Hello, drums? Can you speak up? Are you calling from a payphone? Drums?!"

whoaaa.. I am/was actually thinking of saving for an octopre, didn't know some peeps found it to be that bad! I remember Andy saying once that focusrite preamps aren't best for everything a long time ago, although with that said, James Murphy did use the octopre on the DAATH tracks for drums and I thought he did a swell job with'em. What would you guys recommend in the same price range that would be noticeably better?
