CAD Drum Mics - Too cheap to be good?

I just did a song using them 100% natural (except I BLENDED a clicky kick sample into the kick). They were actually quite nice for this project so I'll take back what I said earlier - I guess it all comes down to the desired style and tone.

Honestly, after buying the Sennheiser e604's for toms, Shure SM57 for snare, Röde NT5's for overheads, I have never ever regretted buying any of them. They each cost about a hundred each except the NT5s were like 300 for the matched pair. I still need to buy the Audix D6 for kick, the Sennheiser e901 works wonderfully live, but has a bit too much bleed from the other drums in studio to my taste.

Why do so many people use e604s and opposed to sm57s on toms? Would it be worth investing in a few? I have 4 sm57s for snare and toms, but would it make *that* much of a difference?

Small size, cheap price, rim clip, darker tone. When I get back to uni, I can make you a comparison with a few mics on toms if you want. I think we have like SM57, e604, MD421, i5 and some others at uni.

To my ear a 604 always sounds better on toms than a 57. They were designed as percussion mics, whereas a 57 is more just an "all round" type mic. The 604 has a much clearer midrange to me which helps a lot on toms. I don't know if these are out of your price range, but the EV N/D468's are amazing on toms.
