California Metalfest show

yeah dude, that was an awesome performance. it just sucked that i had to sit through a shit load of shitty bands...

they came on 15 minutes late but they were amazing
chuck billy was so bad ass

Fuck yeah he was, had to leave right after DNR tho, definately not happy about that...fucking work...:erk:

I'll wager a week's pay that Chuck's a champ at Guitar Hero! Man that dude just FITs on that stage, such a huge presence and happy as hell to be there, what a kick ass front man. Anybodu notice Greg looking like a maniac? Damn guy seemed possessed! What a show, props to Nick Barker, awesome show.

I think I figured out what's wrong with metal today. Just from that one show it's sort of apparent how each band has very little in unique sound. Each band is heavy as hell, which is good, but each and every singer up till Sadus sounded the same, some shittier then others... I realize it's "aggression" that the singers are going for, but with few exceptions it might as well have been one band playing for the 7 or so hours befor Sadus got on. I enjoyed most of it, would have loved to have seen more thrashers on stage, or at least more bands with discernable vocals.

I agree, i thought most of the bands were a joke, they all sound the same. All the singers scream there head off, except that dude from that older dudes band. THey were alright. All these guys do is tune their guitars to C, play power chords fast, and the singer screams. I started laughing at some of the bands. Like the band with the hot chick on keyboards, They started with a cool intro with keyboards, then sounds exactly like the band before them. These bands need to seriously work on there musicianship. Thrash 4 ever! :headbang:

They pretty much all sucked and sounded the same. Except for those older dudes that were on before Testament, they weren't bad.

Flotsom and Jetsom, great band, I've managed to get a CD, Doomsday for Deciever, but finding their stuff is easier through the internet. They played 2 songs that I recognized, wish I had all their catalog so I'd have the songs in my head but oh well, they rocked.:headbang:

Also, I gotta amend my comments, about the last five bands were pretty good, Sadus, Flotsom, and Testament of course, but also these two bands that started with an "A" I think Ankla and Arisis, don't know their band name off hand, but they did a pretty good job up there. Also, there was a band that played around 4:30 on the second stage that I should have stayed for but I got hungry and split...

About the first 4 really did not catch my attention, I don't want to insult them, but yeah, I think about 95% of the crowd was waiting for some asskicking metal, and these guys didn't deliver... I didn't see even a nod of the head for most of the beginning acts, kinda sad for a metal show, but I ain't banging my head to every fucking band...

Ya Flotsam kicks ass!I'm really glad they were able to play with Testament I hope they make it to the east coast, they definatly have their own sound, and most of their albums are really good some heavier then others.I have all their stuff and the 3 dvd's.My favorites are doomsday, no place for disgrace, quatro, drift and my god.The newest on dreams of death is pretty good but the bass isn't loud enough.I could listen to jason ward play bass all day. They are working on a new album that I have been told will be an unbelievable album. They have never gotton to where they deserve to be,but on the plus they answere alot of emails and their mesage board quite abit.:)

haha, please tell me the band with the hot keyboardist was abigail williams. not sure if they played that fest, but that is the usual comment about that band!

It's hard to believe how little these classic thrash bands are getting paid to play these fests, they get 20 bands to play practically for free.

I find it hard to believe Flotsam got more then Testament.I have been a hard core Flotz fan for 20 years but they barely play any shows, and Testament plays all over place.

Setlist was Live in London up until I left when they played DNR, anyone wanna share the rest?

Yeah, not that Flotsam ain't great or anything, but I think Testament are more widely known, and they are the headliners... How do you know what they got paid anyway?

Jason Newsted was a member of Flotsam and got tons of great press in the day, they have more of a thrash fan buzz than Testy. Jason makes more in royalty checks in one week that Testy makes on an entire tour, nobody in Testy played on the Black Album (31 Million Copies sold worldwide) huge difference.

Flotsam got $2500
Testy got $1200

Ask the promoter, I did.

Were you there? I saw at least 50 Testament shirts, and NO Flotsam shirts... I saw, I saw slayer, megadeth, tons of metallica, even a forbidden shirt, a vio-lence shirt, tons of band shirts, but none of them were Flotsam... I did see a Flotsam patch though... Testament clearly ruled that show, they should have been paid more if that's true... I was at the show and everybody was there to see Testament, or to play themselves, I swear I saw so many kids there that ended up on stage, large part of the crowd were bands, kind of cool.

By the way, did anybody notice there was not one single fucking Dragonforce shirt worn? Man did I smile when I saw that. Most "metal" show I've been to.

Did you actually talk to the promoter? I can't imagine an opening band being paid more than the headliner...

BTW, I don't think Newstead's playing for Flotsam (could be wrong tho...). Anyway, that's metallica, not Flot... I don't see any reason to pay that kind of money just because a dude in a band that used to play for them played in another band that was famous...

Flotsam shows are rare and they charge more advance, Tool charges a $75K advance and sometimes plays middle slot in festivals. It is all relative to what the market will bear.
