Camera thread time funky poop

I have a Canon 50D and $400 is about half of what just the body (no lenses) costs, unfortunately. But if you're serious about photography it's a worthy investment. Something else to consider with an SLR is that (good) lenses cost just about as much as the body and you'll need more than a couple of them. A nice high end point and shoot can do everything an SLR with multiple lenses can do, just not as good compared to pics taken with an SLR by a photographer that knows how to use it.

Sony makes dSLR's too. Some are relatively inexpensive and even come with a kit lens to get you started. Check this link out.

Just ordered my Sony DSC-W350, in blue! :D

$149 from Wal-Mart, for a bundle including a case and 2GB memory card. Not bad!

Looking to get a new phone.. Either the Nokia N8 or the HTC Desire Z... any recommendations?

Frank are you aware of the "halfway" function? It's commonplace on basically all point and shoot digital cameras. You can't really just smash down the button on any camera and expect it to fire a picture off right away. Instead, hold the button halfway down, which lets the camera focus, and then when you push it the rest of the way down, it takes the picture instantly. If you just push the button all the way down, it needs time to set its focus, which is why it won't take the picture right away. Holding it halfway and letting it focus will then enable you to take the picture at the exact time you want to take it.

So yeah uh...as soon as I pick up my Sony camera bundle at Wal-Mart, I'll be returning it :p

I just got to thinking that the little Sony, as nice as it is, might be a little too nice, high-tech, and beautiful for my needs. Do I really need all that smile detection, face recognition, and crap? Nope. And it's so pretty that I was thinking about buying screen protectors, wtf. A simple and durable point & shoot would be better in the long run, a camera that I won't mind getting a little scuffed up. And the HD video is not a big deal to me. I still plan to get a bridge camera somewhere down the line, for when business is more serious.

Sooo after going to Wal-Mart, Office Max, and then back to Wal-Mart, I have returned with a Canon Powershot A3000. Only $89 at Wal-Mart but $130 at Office Max! The display at Wal-Mart wasn't working but I was able to try it out at Office Max. Very simple controls, basic and durable body, and takes great pictures. Also, it actually zooms a heck of a lot better than my old Sony did. Powering up the battery now, can't wait to give it a go :D

I switched from a Sony to a Canon too :D

Post your very first picture, whatever it is!

That's one of the biggest reasons I dislike point and shoots nowadays. I still stick to a lot of film, but only because I have dozens and dozens of rolls from back when I used to need that kind of inventory. Still use the big Nikon of mine from time to time, mostly just for big projects.

Well this wasn't the very first pic, I deleted that one just to test out the delete function. But this is the second :)

Another one of the first pictures, taken whilst on the toilet.
