Can anyone tell me what kind of amp Jeff used on In Memory and POE?

I'm pretty sure he used a Peavey Triple X amp on those albums.

The triple X wasn't even made yet. I think I recall reading that Jeff used a Dual Recto. You could go to Neal Kernon's forum and find out for certain, since he recorded them.

Politics Of Ecstacy: Mesa Boogie Mark IV
Dreaming Neon Black: Mesa Boogie Triaxis preamp / Mesa Boogie 2:90 power amp

I have no idea what he used on In Memory.

haha good point.

It was Pat O'Brien's Mesa Boogie Mark IV. Both he and Jeff used that on IM *and* POE, as both projects were tracked simultaneously, but mixed and released at different times. I believe the speaker cab was a Marshall 20th anniversary.

I just bought the actual Triaxis/2-90 rig that we used for DNB. Great sounding combination.

Totally. I was just about to ask what was used on that album on the DNB thread on your forum.

Do you recall by any chance what cabinet was used with that rig, Neil?

I'm really into the big dry Meshuggah sound that Mesa gear can produce, but it seems that it gets tighter and drier with the GT75 speakers you get with Marshall 1960A cabs as opposed to the Mesa ones.

Also, I've heard some things about certain V2 Triaxis amps having a 'Phat mod' installed that gives them a fizzy high-end like a recto.

Thanks for clearing that up, Neal. Pat's Mark IV must have some O'Brien magic (that, or something pushing the front end really hard), I could never get a sound like that out of the one I had.

We used a cab with Celestion Greenbacks (25W I think they are). I know we also had an extended Mesa 4x12, but that didn't make the cut.
