It was Pat O'Brien's Mesa Boogie Mark IV. Both he and Jeff used that on IM *and* POE, as both projects were tracked simultaneously, but mixed and released at different times. I believe the speaker cab was a Marshall 20th anniversary.

I just bought the actual Triaxis/2-90 rig that we used for DNB. Great sounding combination.

Thanks a million dude

Axtra's were/are made in Kenosha, WI. Jeff was all over them back in the day. Some of that was because he is also from the state so he knew about them...at the time they were quite new on the scene. They relied heavily on word of mouth. I worked with a guy back in the early 90's that had several custom made and he swore by them...plus they did great custom painting.

Damn, I have a Mark IV and it has never sounded remotely close to that.......runs off to twiddle with some knobs

I'd guess there was an Overdrive slamming the front end. Either that, or Pat's just sounds better because of who owns it. :Spin:

@Loner: Well you know how it goes. 'The tone comes from the hands' and all that...

I'm very fond of the Mesa amps though. Getting a tad sick of hearing the rectifier everywhere - you can just hear that trademark high-mid 'crunch'. The Triaxis, from what I've been told, is a bit smoother (without the phat mod). I'm just wondering how the prices stack up, particularily here in Australia where you have to sell a few family members off into slavery to get Mesa gear.

yeah, but did he actually use THAT guitar? :)

Doesn't matter. Point is he's using it NOW! :p

Haha, no it really doesn't matter to me. I got the guitar because I loved the construction materials you get for the price. Pulls a great sound, stock. Loomis made me aware of it, but I didn't get it just coz I wanna be him!!!........... okay maybe a little..... but still!

Selling my Mark IV and buying an Engl Fireball was probably the best gear decision I've ever made. I suggest checking out Engl as well before you buy a Mesa.

I've heard many ENGL amps. I've recorded a Powerball in one of my first ever recording sessions as well as heard clips of the many others. They get a very nice dry sound, and I'm particularily fond of how Tesseract got it to sound, but I still preffer Mesa... I see it as being closer to the sound I'm truly after.

Btw in case it matters at all, here is the end result of said 'session':

How the hell did you get Loomis' guitar?! Do tell.

All the male members of the board are trained killers and expert mercenaries. Will hired all of us and we met in Seattle to plan the heist.

Dressed entirely in black we took our guns, pistols, RPG's, tanks, hummers and naked cheer-leading team and lead a ninja assault on the home of Jeff Loomis. We sneaked in, stole the guitar, urinated in Jeff's cream cheese, watched some pay-per-view porn on his tv, and escaped - all under the veil of night.

When done, we handed the guitar back to will for our moderate fees and all flew back to our respective homelands to bed women and drink ale, until our ninja skills are required again.
