Hi, everybody. I'm taking a music history class on medieval music, and we have to write a paper on a song that engages with the past in some way. I chose to do The Odyssey.

Anyway, one of the subjects that the prompt mentions we could discuss is what modes the song uses. I only know a tiny amount of music theory (miniscule, actually), and I have no idea how I would figure this out. So, I was hoping that perhaps someone on here could help me out and point out where all the different modes are used in The Odyssey.

Thanks in advance!

lol, u've got to be joking, that would take ages. I could tell u what scales are used in most sections. Then you could just work out the modes based on 2 things and 2 things only.....what note the phrase starts on and ends on. Get the michael angelo video 'prog' for a pretty cool description of modes.

Offhand I think the champion of ithaca section is in d major...but that's all i remember without going through it.
