I have pretty damn small hands and can do this comfortably... try pulling your thumb in towards you palm a bit which will make your hand arch up and you should gain a little stretch room for the lick.

Piece of cake

Edit: Pretty primitive application of it i put in a song a few years ago.

And I just picked up my guitar and I have picked up such a fucking horrible habit of going from ring to pinky with any sort of crazy stretch I can't play it like he does. For some reason I can play it faster and easier going (fingers in order descending) 4,3,1,4,3,1 etc...

So fucking wierd. Going from pinky to bird feels totally awkward (goes and practices said stretch)

I have very average size hands and I find that easy on a 25.5 inch scale guitar. He's doing it on a 24.75 inch scale guitar which makes it even easier.
I can actually get my pinky to stretch one more fret to change it from a diminished triad to a minor triad and play that pattern across all the strings.
I can go on fret even further than the minor triad (that is, fret 9, fret 12 and fret 17) but at that point it becomes impossible to do that pattern on more than one string.

hmm wow i am pretty shocked. i find it very hard, even when bending my hand and playing with the thumb. maybe hours of practice..?

Whether you find this hard is relative to your skill level. Those on here that say it's not hard probably have way more practice on the guitar. To perfect licks like these, it does take hours of practice, and you should probably get a teacher to make sure your technique isn't messed up.
