Caprica.

I was just going to make a Caprica thread but slept late today!

I don't know if I like this show or not. I like the idea of the show.

Some things that are bothering me:

1. For my tastes it is not taking place far enough in the BSG past. If I remember correct it is only 30 years before the events in BSG. Just not enough time in my opinion to develop a full blown robotic army that will rebel against their human masters. Even if the first model is imprinted with a human "avatar".

2. The little home robots that everyone seems to have on the show appear very advanced in their cognitive abilities but for some reason Greystone can't seem to make his Cylon prototype work. I don't get that part.

3. I don't need them going down the Star Wars path with making one of the lead characters who, I"m guessing, helps bring about the eventual Cylon revolt, ADAMA. Therefore, making the young boy the future Commander Adama who will now have to be the redeemer for his father's sins. Which is where it seems they are taking it.

I do like the look and feel of the show. I do like the fact that it is basically a soap opera for geeks, rather than an action show. It seems to fit the basic idea for the show. Eric Stoltz is good as always.

The younger Adama is also partly responsible because he shot down a Cylon ship prior to the Fall and may have instigated it, to an extent.

My thoughts on the first two episodes:

Fucking terrible. Depressingly so. I really wanted to like it for obvious reasons, but I don't even have any desire to watch the most recent episode.

I've watched everything so far and I have the same reservations as Dan. It's OK, but I'm not desperate to watch it.

I think what I'll do is record it every week and give it a proper viewing once the season is over, and see how it goes as a whole piece.

Primarily, though, I'm looking forward to it finishing so that SGU gets back on.

What I was worried about from the off was how long they could string it out before they invent cylons, enslave them and then the first war kicks off. How much can really happen in that period?

Even 58 years isn't long enough. I would figure you would need time to create the robot prototype, then time for it to begin production. Then practical use by one colony, then by all colonies. then enough production time for the cylons to be a force to be feared, then time for them to revolt. then time for some sort of war. then the amount of time that the clyons were hidden.

According to the timeline the Clyon war was 52 years ago. And no one had seen a Clyon in 40 years. So they went from prototype to full blown Clyon war in less then 6 years? Too fast for me.

And how old does that make Adama in the BSG series?

According to that site, the mini series was 52 years since the war started and 40 since the Clyons vanished.

You are saying 70 years since the start and 75 at the end of the BSG main series. Or am I not reading your post right?

This part makes me evenmore confused!

Caprica is a series, spun-off from the Re-imagined Series that is set 50 years in the show's past on a pre-Cylon War Caprica. Whilst being set in the Battlestar Galactica universe, the show will be more a family drama than space opera, following the Graystone and Adama families and the invention of the intelligent machines known as the Cybernetic Life-Form Node (Cylon).

So what is the timeline here is what I'm first trying to get a handle on.
Then, how old does that make CMDR. Adama? He appears to be around 8 -12ish oin Caprica.

The time line (I think) is that Caprica starts 58 years before the Fall. Throw in the 40 years of Cylon silence and then the the period of the first war and that goes back (from the Fall) 52 years, which means the first Cylon war is 6 years in the future from the current series of Caprica.

I think.
