Casio General Midi issue

hey, I'm new to this forum, but already learned so much from it in one day. I'm having a strange issue with my casio keyboard. It has a general midi function but isnt a midi keyboard. when I hook it up to my vstis in my daw i hear the correct sounds of the vsts but in the backround I hear the crappy casio sound. I thought it was just upon monitoring but it shows up in playback as well. is there something i should be adjusting in my daw or the keyboard itself?

Try to find a "local" function somewhere in the menus of the Casio, turn it to "off". That way, the sound generator part of the keyboard will only respond when there's incoming midi signals.
Or...do what I'd do if I wasn't using the Casio's GM sounds, turn its volume all the way down ( not the 0-127 midi volume thing, I'm talking about the slider, main volume one)
