Cathedral

How come Cathedral don't get any apprecation in this forum? All sorts of other doom bands get "the props", yet the band (and largely in Lee Dorian the individual), responsible for popularising the cause of doom in the 90's and beyond gets almost no recognition here.

Why is that?

I can think of only two reasons:

a) You don't know Cathedral
b) You don't like them

Which and why?

Personally, I liked their bouncy stuff, although Caravan beyond redemption got a little too stoner.

You can't knock Endtyme for grimness or Garden...for return to form though.

Forest of Equilibrium is great, and I like most of their other material as well. They do get a bit too silly for me sometimes, though. Like on the Cosmic Requiem CD when Lee goes "boom chicka boom chicka wah wah wah" or "disco supernova do the martian bosanova!"

I like that sillyness though, as with "Huggy Bear? Oh YEAAAAAH" on "Utopian Blaster".

It just signifies to me that Doom doesn't have to be about fat chicks crying because no one will fuck them.

(Though, to be fair, I would).

yeah and i wouldnt say cathedral have released a pure doom album since forest of eq.

which on the other hand is so fucking capital letters DOOM that caps lock just isnt enough

Endtyme and Supernatural Birth Machine are pretty average, but other than those albums the band is one of the best.

I only know Forest Of Equilibrium and The Ethereal Mirror, and they botch rick my ass off. Seeing as how I'm not a huge doom fan, Cathedral more than satiate my hunger for slow and heavy.

Cathedral is a very decent band I first heard their Ethereal Mirror album then Forrest of Equilibrium later.Both outstanding pieces of work.

Yeah, they lost me there too. I saw them sometime in the 90's but its all a bit of a haze - I've vague memories of Dorian strangling himself with the mic lead...
