Also older cathedral sounds a lot different than the new stuff. Forest of Equilbrium has no stoner elements and is just pure doom metal.

Cathedral has had all kinda of styles and changes over the years. Wait till you get really into the bands discography.

ISn't Cathedral considered sludge, I haveen't heard them much, but they sound more stoner. Anyone explain this to me.

Forest of Equilbirum 1991. Pure slow as hell doom with longer songs.

Soul Sacrifice E.P 1992. Doom just alittle more upbeat and rockish.

The Ethereal Mirror 1993. Some songs are stoner and some doom. The band is starting to mix things up. Phantasmagoria is an obvious doom song where say ride is stoner and like what is to come with carnival bizarre.

Comis Requiem E.P. A pure doom 4 song E.P with the epic 22 minute The Voyage Of The Homeless Sapien'

Carnival Bizzarre 1995. stoner

Supernatural Birth Machine 1996. stoner

Caravan Beyond Redemption 1998. stoner

Endtyme 2001. Cathedral goes more doom on this one but something is not right and it's a poor album.

The VIIth Coming 2002. Doom. Great crushing album. The band expiriments with more organ use than they ever have. This album has a very 70's feel.

The Garden of Unearthly Delights 2005. Stoner with some doomish parts.

The last 2 cds have been heavier than the previous couple albums before because I think Cathedral wants to show the new bands they can still do it better and show their older elements. Cathedral really started the crushing doom with forest and they know the impact they made.

Anyways, i picked up Forest of Equlibrium, Carnival Bizarre and The garden of unearthly delights today, damn they are impressive. Forest is as slow as fuck and is probably the first real doom album i have got and tis wicked. Carnival is awesome as well, the new effort is not quite as good but is still cool

Hard to decide which of forest and carnival is better though, i also endevour to get The Eternal Mirror soon as well

Personally, I don't think that lyrics get any more profound than Cathedral.

There is always exception to the rules.

Look at the doom metal band solitude aeturnus. If you do not like them you probably just don't have taste in heavy music in general.

i've of them quite a bit lately but never heard. they sound like a band that i'd either really enjoy or really snooze to. i usually enjoy Finnish bands though so. all this talk of how slow and drawn out the songs can get make me a little hesitant though. it takes a lot of musical creativity to keep things like that interesting and i think thats where doom bands fail a lot of people.

If you don't like slow, listen to their album 'Crush the Insects'. It's more rockish and a lot of fun. The only song which can get tedious on it is Fucking Wizard.

I'd disagree, I'd say Slave of Satan is the most tedious song on the record, whereas Fucking Wizard gets pretty rockin' towards the end.
