I allways get kinda stuck on a certain snare sound.

Super short and attacky and with alot of midrange, and how much i try i cant really get away from it?

Everytime some one here's a new mix of mine they go "aaahhh typical jb snare, heard it right away..." and its kinda annoying the shit out of me atm haha

Does anyone ever have the same issue and how do you work around yourself to actually force yourself into something else?

start listening to a genre' of music whose production is totally different to what you're used to. listen to the TOP artists in said genre'... BAM... tons of awesome drum sounds.... I recently got into some country (great one to try) and was fucking SHOCKED by the awesomeness of some of these snare sounds...

on the OTHER HAND, that could just be a 'signature' of the 'JB' sound, you know? of course you don't want the same sound ALL the time but as long as you're using different samples, than it must just be how YOUR ears like to hear a snare drum in a mix.... some things are MORE signature than others when it comes to engineers' "sounds" and aesthetic..

Just try using some new samples that you wouldn't have typically chosen before and process it it enough so you like it. It'll end up sounding nothing like your usual sound.

Another way is find a song you really like the snare of, find a part where you can just hear the snare on it's own.. and pray it reverberates fully so you can steal it lol. I've been searching songs in my iTunes for a snare!

I dont think except for some kick reinforcement ive used samples for a ton of recent projects.

So its mostly processing and the way i want to hear things i guess.

Zone-ing in on a snare a i like as reference might be a good one...

And your right btw charles, stuff like 16 horse power/wovenhand also have amazing snares.
