hey there,

i'm about to get another set of cans for the musicians to track with.

actually, the idea is to have the singer wear cans while doing his thing, with me also wearing my cans so i can shut the monitors down - the reason being that my "vocal booth" isn't isolated very well, so i'd like to minimize the bleed.

anyways, i figured that if i get another set of cans, why not get one that can i could also use as a second reference with my mixes?
i'm on hs80m monitors and beyer dt770pro cans as of right now.

so, any recommendations whether this is actually a good idea, and if so which low end model would suit me best here?

btw, what about cheap headphone amps?
are they usable for tracking purposes, or will cheapish amps destroy the sound so much that it's too bad even for tracking?

thanks!

what about the extreme isolation ex-25?

probably not the best for referencing, but they should be great for tracking vocals, esp. with an LDC?

alright.....that was pretty straightforward haha.

as for the ath m50's, i used to own them, and wasn't too impressed tbh....not exactly comfortable, plus very honky sounding (to me).

i'm looking more along the lines of something hyped/scooped, 1st to give the performer the "best" (read: hifi like) sound, and 2nd to reference with something that sounds sort of like a typical hifi system.

Haha, yeah, definitely mids aplenty with the M50's - but then again, since that's what we (as humans) are most sensitive to, it would probably be far better for the "talent's" intelligibility of what he/she's hearing back if there were plenty of mids, especially with background noise bleed! (in the case of drummers)
