Check out my snare tones in my new dum room

No Care Ever
Here is a clip of a 13 inch black beauty snare in my new drum room. This is the first snare sample ive gotten to make in there, so there's definitely room for improvement. Guitars are just the scratch guitars, so they are quite sloppy(im in the process of tracking guitars this week)

This is 100% my sample, no augments. sm57 top and bottom, two rode nt 5 overheads, and at4040 room.

here are a few of the hardest samples for you guys to mess around with if interested.

oh man that clip sounds like ass haha. I'm not really a huge fan of the snare, but the final version is much better than this clip.

Still the same sample, just re processed. I dont remember my exact processing, but it was several steps of high shelf, slight boost around 200hz for body, and lots of compression on each mic, then on the mixed down sample as well. Maybe even a harmonic exciter to boost the attack. I was attempting to go for a Black Dahlia Murder Suecof type snare. I got kinda close, but not quite there on this one.

That was exactly what I thought when I heard the first clip and the second clip is more in the vein of what I would do to the first snare. I was thinking it had a bit too much low mids and too little high-end but I wouldn't take it as far as you did in clip 2. I would aim for a sound sort of in-between, that would be sweeeeet :)

dang man! great job. i thought the first one sounded good, but the second one sounds amazing!

hey dude

just wondering what your doing with the snare?

Are you making samples, triggering the snare and replacing it with the sample later on or are you just straight micing this snare and not replacing it at all?
I just mic'd it up, took samples, processed, mixed down files(organized much like the slate samples), tracked the songs with triggers, and dropped the samples into drumagog.

I am glad people are trying to make their own drum samples! I love slate but eventually i want to do the same! The mix sound great
Pod on guitars? correct? Any suggestions with that tone ha

Also one question
Did you take multiple velocity of the snare?

*ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME LEARN HOW TO POST A THREAD TO RATE MY MIX PM ME PLEASE!*

yeah i take multiple velocities of the snare. 4 different velocities, and 4 to 6 samples per velocity.

and to post a thread, just look on the top left of the rate my mix page. There is a button that says "new thread"
